“Simply the best”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

My wife and I booked a double room recently and at short notice. the room was spotless and the bed very comfy. The location is terrific with the free parking at the harbour and the proximity of the fabulous castle and town. The views of the setting sun across the Menai Straits whilst sipping a cold drink are equal to any where. I am on a gluten free diet for medical reasons and for breakfast I was offered smoked haddock on a bed of wilted spinach with mornay sauce. For service, quality and value we would recommend.

I stayed in the twin-bedded room.

Pros:
• Excellent location; <5-minute walk to the castle
• Clean room
• Breakfast was fine (the website touts it as something special, but it’s really no different from any other decent B&B’s breakfast); dining room was clean but a bit cramped
• Owner was reasonably pleasant

Cons:
• Tiny room barely bigger than the twin beds; tiny bathroom, too.
• Atrocious beds with worn-out springs; mine had a valley in the center, with a slight tilt to one side
• No on-street parking, no parking in front of the B&B; your options are either one of the few available spaces next to the harbor (the preferred location) or a city parking lot that’s a several-minute walk away)
• Website mentions a “Quiet Room;” I never saw it or was told about it by the owners

Bottom line: You can’t beat the location, but the room was disappointing. Before returning here, I’d first search for another B&B.

Well, it's almost like home. Situated two blocks from the Castle, this B&B has an ideal location in Caernarvon. It's the first one that I've been to that had a printed breakfast menu so there is more than the full Welsh breakfast. Rooms were comfortable and had WiFi. There is free parking on the quay about a minute walk and also a pay lot at the same distance. I will definitely book there the next trip to Wales.

Mary & Roger are everything you’d want in B&B hosts – welcoming, hospitable, helpful, and friendly. The B&B is in a great location within the city walls – about a 5 minute walk to the castle, close to many restaurants and less than 10 minutes to the town centre, train and bus stations. The rooms are clean & comfortable, and the made-to-order breakfast fuels you for the day. When I emailed in advance of our visit, I mentioned that I had several allergies, and Mary asked how best to accommodate them to make sure my visit was comfortable and safe – buying new feather-free pillows for our room, and ensuring that breakfast foods I selected were nut-free. Mary was also very helpful in providing information, doing research and making suggestions for developing our itinerary for touring northern Wales. Roger & Mary made recommendations for local restaurants and they were all great – yummy food, good service and reasonably priced. Each night that we returned from our touring, it was like coming home, with Mary & Roger asking how our day went.

I was much impressed by this B&B accommodation. The room was very clean and most comfortable. The breakfast was large and tasty, and the breakfast room appealing and homely. The people who run the place were pleasant and helpful in every way throughout. All in all, a most rewarding experience. I recommend it most highly and would be very glad to return there tomorrow.

Wonderful location, short walk from the castle, near shops, restaurants pub etc. Very friendly and chatty host - we really enjoyed talking to him. Our room was beautiful, with everything we needed. Huge bathroom too. Breakfasts were delicious! Would definitely recommend Cartref!

A lovely location within the Castle walls & just a short stroll to all of the attractions of Caernarfon. A simple and homely room with thoughtful extra touches and a well cooked, tasty breakfast. You couldn't ask for more!
