“business isn't business without wifi”
Reviewed 2 February 2012

Just returned from a business trip and stayed at the Celtic Royal for a number of night.

I like this hotel, it is friendly and easy on the eye. Staff are excellent and very helpful. I have three some criticism which need to be addressed.

Firstly, although the revolving door is quaint, it is not easy to navigate with bags. There maybe an accessible entry to the side of the hotel but this is hidden away and staff must be used to seeing guests struggle through this antiquaited entrypoint.

Secondly, the rooms are lovely a big but they a very cold. The radiator is tiny for the size of the room and the bathroom has no heating in it and again in such a large room you feel like you are entering an igloo.

Finally, business clients need internet in our rooms and not free access in the lobby. I suggest a simple investment in wifi around the hotel and charge if you have to but at least give people the choice to stay in their rooms to work in private.

Apart from those little things, think this is a great hotel and worth visiting. The gym and pool are good and room service was quick and tasty.

Hotel well decorated and presented. Staff friendly and polite (if they understood you) not local people. Bedroom was large but cold, very small radiator which was turned off during afternoon and night. No heating at all in the bathroom (Brrr)

Room Tip: Make sure heating in bathroom and that heating is left on all day and night. It can be regulated via...

just got back from a relaxing weekend in North Wales the hotel was clean, ataff were friendly and polite (shame they were all not from the surounding area as unemployment in this part of the country is very high and i think the hotel should employ more staff from the local community ) and very accomodating nothing was too much trouble. the hotel was very clean , the food was of a high standard, the leisure faccilittes excellent , good parking and parking was very adiquate the hotel is in good condition and close proximity to the town.
there was a country and western theme this weekend that was a nice suprise with the staff dressing as cow girls, entertainment very good and not expected. would reccomend this hotel thank you for making our stay a nice one

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at this Hotel. The food was excellent and the service and friendliness of the staff and waiters was first class. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and very warm. Everyone had a great time and there were no complaints whatsoever. will definitely return again.
The hotel is to be congratulated for its excellent New Year's Eve Party.

Room Tip: We had a room on 1st floor which was quite spacious

I stayed here with family between 27th December and 30th December 2011; we occupied four rooms on the second floor. We wanted to stay somewhere where 9 of us could be close together: We considered a cottage but decided that it would be nicer to stay in a hotel. The brief was to find a nice hotel with leisure facilities on the coastline of North Wales- and we found a real gem!

I think the location of the hotel is very good; it's easy to get to, being located just off the A487 and there is plenty of free car parking. There is an Asda store opposite the hotel- which is very handy if you forget anything or you want to purchase anything. It's a short walk into town; you either turn left or walk straight on, down the side of Asda. The hotel is entered through a very old revolving door; I think it's wonderful that this original feature has been retained. The entrance lobby/ reception area is very grand, with a lofty ceiling and a feeling of space. I really like the style of decoration- a mixture of old and new, with an enormous chandelier and galleried wooden staircase. The staircase carpet feels thick underfoot which gives the impression of quality and elegance. A nice touch is a picture gallery at the bottom of the stairs with old photographs of the hotel and Caernarfon. When you descend the staircase in the morning there is a real feeling of space and restfulness.

All four rooms were clean and spacious and it was easy to control the temperature of the room by adjusting the radiator or opening the window. My room contained a double bed and a single bed- plenty of room for two people. The view wasn't great, overlooking a flat roof, but it was quiet, comfortable and clean and it was possible to open the window to let fresh air in. There was plenty of storage, with a large wardrobe (hangers supplied), several sets of drawers and a desk. The shower room was of a good size and it was clean: The shower was very powerful- perfect for waking you up n the morning! One minor gripe I had was with the bed pillows; I found them to be very hard but this may be personal preference. I ordered a newspaper and it was waiting outside my door every morning.

I used the leisure facilities each day; the gym is fairly small but the equipment is good and the treadmills overlook the pool, so you can people-watch and wave to other people to make your workout go quicker! There appeared to be sufficient equipment to cope with the post-Christmas demand; there are three treadmills, two rowers, and several bikes and cross-trainers, together with a variety of weight stations. The equipment was always clean and in good working order. Towels were provided and I found the changing rooms to be clean, with nice warm showers (shower gel and bags for your wet bathing clothes are provided- it's little touches like this that are really nice) and plenty of large lockers available. The indoor pool is of a good size and it is heated. At the side of the pool are showers, a sauna and steam room- these facilities were also spotlessly clean and well maintained. Floats and seats are available and although the pool doesn't have a permanent lifeguard on duty, the staff on the leisure desk regularly check the pool.

All the exercise made for a healthy appetite- and the food was excellent. Breakfast is served until 10am so you can have a well-earned lie in. A selection of breakfast cereals, toast and preserves, yoghurts are available, together with hot food from a self-serve buffet trolley (there are fried and scrambled eggs, tomatoes, bacon, sausage, hash browns and mushrooms- time to get back to the gym!) A freshly cooked breakfast is available, but I found the buffet food to be perfectly acceptable. In the evening, I thought that the three-course menu was varied, with a selection of starters, mains and desserts, including vegetarian options. The meat-based meals, such as steak, beef and lamb were all made with Welsh meat and were excellent, with lots of flavour; they were served hot with plenty of vegetables. The braised beef deserves a special mention; it was cooked to perfection and was full of flavour. The steak is available for a small supplement of £5 but is well worth it; over the three nights we all tried the steak and found it to cooked exactly as we asked for with a delicious flavour. The hotel has been awarded a score of 5 in the Environmental Health Food Hygiene Rating Scheme so you know that food hygiene standards are very good: The certificate is proudly displayed in the entrance porch next to the AA rating.

In the evening we played card games in one of the large lounges. One of the things I loved about the hotel are the numerous comfortable seating areas where you can relax with a drink and a book. One of the rooms resembles an old-fashioned library, with beautiful wooden bookcases: There are hundreds of books and magazines at your disposal and the sofas are very comfortable. The communal areas are very nicely decorated, in a cross-over between traditional and modern decoration.

I would like to mention the staff, particularly Gabby, who served us in the restaurant. Gabby was immaculately presented and she was always polite and extremely cheerful, whether at 8am or 10pm. She really did give the impression that nothing was too much trouble, as she cheerfully responded "no problem" to our requests for more coffee or more toast, or a freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. All of the staff I spoke to- at the reception desk, the leisure desk, the bar- were all very polite and gave great customer service. At an organisation like a hotel the staff are very important; I feel that there is a good team of staff at the Celtic Royal Hotel who do really care about providing good customer service.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay in the Celtic Royal Hotel. Talking to the rest of my family, they all had a wonderful stay too. The hotel is spacious, clean and well maintained and little touches such as the traditional revolving door, provision of shower gel and bags for wet bathing clothes, provision of books and magazines make a real difference. Personally, I believe the hotel achieves a standard well in excess of the official three star rating- but I'm not a hotel inspecor! I will definitely return to this gem of a hotel and I thoroughly recommend it.

A good place all round that seems consistently better than the "official" 3 star rating, but beware - contrary to some of the promo material I have seen, WiFi is only available in public areas - not all rooms. Be sure to nag them to join the 21st century!

Room Tip: Ask for one in range of WiFi!!

Stayed Christmas night and Boxing night 2011 with a wheelchair user.
Arrived Christmas Day with car full of aids, all quickly taken to our room by pleasant and efficient staff.
Customer service excellent throughout stay. All requests from the most minor to more challenging problems resolved graciously - including transporting our wheelchair user up and down stairs when lift broke down.
Room large and pleasant, decor good. Very suitable for our specific needs, esp design of bathroom - which had well placed hand rails, good wheel-in shower with fold down jump seat if required.
Wheelchair access good to hotel from the several designated parking spaces. Good access to pleasant lounges, bar, dining room and to function room.
Room service prompt and efficient, including very good breakfast.
Hotel spotless throughout, including gym, changing rooms and very pleasant pool area.
A very good stay.

Room Tip: Our room was was away from bar area and front of hotel and was quiet.
