“Really interesting”

Having the old town walls still in place across the town add to the visual of how it used to look. They've kept really well and it's a shame not more of the wall survived.

“Historical interest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

Not actually part of the main castle but these walls are an integral part of the history of Caernarfon castle.parts of the town can only be reached by entering under the archways of these solidly built old stone walls complete with towers, a good camera subject.

“You have to do this”

Just lovely to amble and feel enclosed. The walls are all around and it is magical to keep looking up and spotting them from wherever you are in the town.

“it's free and can be an additional short activity after visiting the castle”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

Subnote :
Our extended family where lucky enough to actually rent a large town house within the castle walls and so we actually had a viewing platform/ sundeck extended from the wall and accessed from a staircase in the yard of our house, so where fortunate enough to witness some lovely sunsets over the estuary and spend some peaceful moments( when not out and about) sitting reading with a glass of wine beside this ancient and historical wall.

however for anyone wishing to actually go up and wander around the walls on top , this does not seem to be such a feasible option 1- because like our accommodation a fair amount of the wall is backed onto by private property 2 - the other more open parts that you could see had padlocked gates to prevent you going up and walking along the actual top of the wall where in centuries past guards would have stood lookout

so the appreciation really has to be done from ground level to wander around looking up and getting the odd photo here and there - consequently there are numerous little shops and pubs that also distract if the wall loses it's appeal , but overall it should not take too long to walk around the outside part of the walls should you wish to.

The arches into the streets are interesting and although you could get a car through made me wonder how on earth the houses would get delivery vans or removal vans in to the streets when required. ( also a one way system in place if you are driving )

You do get a better view of the walls from the castle if you happen to be there , but if you don't have time for that it's certainly worth a wee look around the walls just to absorb the setting and consider the age and background and it's free.

( at the time we where there they where working on the seafront promenade area so it was fenced off and no access was allowed to that part of the wall from the ground level )

“Sense of History”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

All I can say is in title, a good sense of history to see the old walls around you. We did not have time to take one of the guided tours but believe this would be worthwhile
