Situated about 1.6km from the village of Llantilio Crossenny, White Castle is probably the most dramatic of the 'Three Castles' in the area (Grosmont and Skenfrith being the other two). With a little imagination it's easy to see how spectacular this castle would have been during the Thirteenth Century and how it would have dominated the countryside and presumably the minds of those bent on causing problems for the Marcher Lords. See it when the weather is good if you can but if not don't let the rain prevent a visit. There is some parking at the castle and a Three Pounds entry fee.

The location of the castle is very dramatic. The moat is like a lake with deep stone walls. It would have been good to be able to walk all the way around and got on to the small island at the back, which was part of the original entrance. You can climb one of the gate towers and the view is awesome. It's only £3 to get in and I definitely got £3 worth of enjoyment out of it.

It's off the beaten track, but is well worth a wander. Probably better on a warmer, sunnier day (with a picnic as tables were provided) but even so the view from the turret was still beautiful. The lady at the booth was chatty and welcoming and the entrance fee - well, if you want these monuments to remain standing it's a small investment to make.

If you buy the £4.50 booklet on The Three Castles you get lots of information about White, Skenfrith and Grosmont Castles (and Hen Gwrt a moated site) and with a car you can do all of them in a day if you want.

Castle is of the beaten track. Not very big but stunning. £3.00 entry fee. The castle is the starting point for the three castles walk. Very interesting and well worth a visit.

We travelled to White Castle after hearing good things about it and reading the leaflet. We found it pricey for what was actually there. There is very little information about the castle and the Bluetooth tour did not work.
The view from the one tower you can climb was spectacular and there are plenty of benches where you can sit and would, I'm sure, be a lovely place for a family picnic but was not what we were expecting from the information in the leaflet.
