“Tranquil quality visit”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

We enjoyed a one night gourmet break to celebrate our anniversary and everything was excellent. Room 15 has been refurbished and was quiet and spacious. Charlotte, the receptionist who greeted us was friendly and also changed our duvet for sheet and blanket, served pre dinner drinks and was much in evidence later in the restaurant. Smiling and helpful throughout, as were all the team who worked at the hotel. The tasting menu was a treat and contained some surprises and this is the purpose of "a tasting". All were beautifully presented and fresh with local produce and vegetables from the hotel garden. After the meal we spent some time in the reception rooms where all the tables were lit by candles providing a wonderful atmosphere. The breakfast was very good and we departed reluctantly to visit some local attractions, mainly Big Pit.
Well done to everyone involved in providing such great service.

We got married 10 years ago at Llansanffraed and returned for our anniversary this month. Our wedding was fab and the staff did everything to make it go smoothly and our anniversary was treated the same. They make you feel so special and with the views and quality of food and drink it makes every occasion the best. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return for some more fine dining!

We were married here in may of this year. In the run up to the wedding jemma the wedding planner was brilliant, she was extremelly organised and nothing seemed to be to much trouble.
On the day the staff were so attentive and everything was well organised. We literally didnt have to worry about a thing.
The hotel has beautiful grounds which are well maintained, however if you have bad weather like me the inside of the hotel is equally as nice.
My guests are still talking about how good the food was even 2 months later. I really can't praise llansantffraed court enough.

We stayed for one night at this lovely place and had booked the 'taster menu'. The place was well signposted, there is ample parking and a polite Receptionist booked our meal for 7.30pm. Room (number 8) was very nice with lovely view with a very comfy bed and nice large bathroom with lovely toiletries.
We went to the Restaurant at 7.30 but were directed back to the lounge for canapés. We were offered the 'flight of wines' but at £30 a person we really couldn't afford it so we picked a bottle of house Merlot. She asked if we wanted it there or on the table and as I thought we would be going directly in (as we had booked for 7.30pm) we asked for it to be put on the table. However we were left in the lounge until 8.15 with the canapés which I didn't like very much. We were there so long that my husband wanted to go down but as we were requested to wait, we did. Eventually we were fetched and had our first course which was good but the following course (the foie gras with cherry and almond) was just amazing followed by a generous portion of salmon and then beef which melted in the mouth. This was then followed by 2 desserts!
I would not call this a 'taster menu' but a banquet! I was seriously stuffed by the end and we waddled out and had to take a walk before going to bed.
If I have to be critical (and these are very small points...) seeing as we had so many courses I would have liked to have started earlier, as it all a bit rushed which was a great pity. Secondly the Restaurant had a lot of flies which kept landing on us and the food which could have been avoided by fitting fly guards to the windows. Thirdly, I would have liked the server to have described each course as some were so complex I just couldn't identify all the elements.
In summary, I really liked this place and I would say that was the best meal that I have ever eaten. I would definitely recommend both the hotel and the Restaurant (especially the taster menu) but I would advise that you start early and go hungry!

We stayed here for the mid-week break to celebrate a wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. Our room (22) was as before, comfortable and clean but some lights needed bulbs and hinges needed oiling but the view is over fields and woodland. I've not been disturbed by the local hunt before but the barking dogs seemed very close and very early at 6am! The walled garden is looking absolutely the best ever (our first visit in summer) and provides much fruit and veg to the hotel kitchen - well worth a walk around. Some other reviews complain about the service - we had no such complaints!

Room Tip: top floor is more quiet and the lift is useful. Shower not great in room 22

Attended a wedding here, arrived 15 mins early, no one on reception to greet guests, staff had no idea what to do with presents.

It took in excess if 15 minutes to get served bar, staff were totally ineffectual, and it got worse as more guests arrived.

Food was frankly appalling, beef wellington overcooked, meat dry and tasteless, roast potatoes were rock hard and inedible.

Possibly the worst meal I have had in years and the bar service WAS the worst I have ever encountered in my life - appalling.

Room Tip: Stay at the Hardwick up the road !

This Hotel did not live up to its four star standard. It was understaffed with an inexperienced and sloppy and slow evening meal service. Dinner booking time not adhered to. However the chefs in the kitchen produced excellent food albeit at a snails pace. Cooked breakfasts were well presented. Evidence of public areas not being cleaned properly during our two day & night stay led us to leave early not wishing to stay the third night that we had pre-booked. The surrounding area is beautiful but the hotel is run down and in need of many repairs. The bathroom in our suite was superb. The owner should spend more time there and get involved in the daily running of the hotel. It needs to pull up its socks big time.
