Market day at Abergavenny on pleasant late April day. Almost all the cafes and restaurants at the top end of town were very busy, so my wife and I wandered down to the lower part of the mainstreet and came across the Auberge. From the outside it looks (and is) a modern trendy establishment and appears to be the type of place that younger members of the community might inhabit, until we saw through the window, there were a fair number of the more senior age group sat at the tables.
So we thought, let's give it a try! Glad we did!
The very friendly young staff made us feel very welcome, and looking at the menu, there was a good selection of dishes available, so we placed our order at the bar and sat at a vacant window table.
Our meals were served within 10 minutes, and it proved to be a very satisfying meal indeed.
Cooked well and presented well, although my one (minor) gripe was, that having ordered an American Burger, i wish that it had been served on a plate, rather than on a narrow wooden board, as a burger can be a bit messy!
That apart, I can fully recommend this establishment as a place to enjoy a lovely lunch,(£15 including drinks), served well by the exceptionally polite and friendly staff. Well done Auberge!
