Visited the Angel for tea for the third time. It is now significantly more expensive. It was a hot day so we opted to sit in the courtyard, as did most others. However, the staff seemed unprepared for this. They did not bring any cloth or even table mats, leaving us to eat off the bare, beer stained wood. When they brought tea, the cake stand fell over, saved by my quick eyed companion, as no one had thought of putting feet on a slatted table. The choice of teas was extensive and my lapsang souchong was delicious, although I had to ask for lemon.
The sandwiches were rather slabby and the fillings pretty tasteless. The scones, which only arrived when asked for, were OK and the strawberries were only fair. The cakes however were delicious.
The courtyard is a delightful place on a hot day and we both enjoyed the outing, chiefly the venue, the company, the tea and the cakes. However the rest was really not up to scratch.
