“Best food for miles around!”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We came on a boating holiday, and like to stop off in pubs along the way to see the local area, however in Gilwern we tried 4 pubs, all of which were run down, rude and unfriendly or didn't take card. Just as we were giving up we walked past the fish bar and we are so glad we did! Friendliest service ever, fresh and quality food where you can taste the extra effort they go to with the rape seed oil and so on. Gave us forks and wet towels. Went the extra mile. Would recommend to everyone without a doubt!

“SIMPLY THE BEST”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We travel 55miles EVERY Friday evening for our usual delicious meal of fish supper, chicken breast & chips & gravy. The quality of food and service is outstanding and the taste....well.....words cannot express how great it all is.

The fact that we can phone and order our food beforehand, means that when we collect we are guaranteed a FRESHLY cooked meal which is so much nicer than being served food that has been hanging around for hours like usual fish and chip shops.

Alan, Faz and the gang "out the back" are really friendly and are first class at what they do.

You will not find a better fish n chip shop on this planet.

Keep up the good work and we will see you Friday! :-)

Becky & Mr Paul!

“The best take-away fish and chips”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

The Village Fish Bar on Main Road, Gilwern, just off the A465, cooks the best fish and chips for miles around. We are lucky, we live 5 minutes' drive away, so all we do is phone ahead and collect our freshly cooked meals, served with lemon slices, and enjoy. The Fish Bar is small but immaculate and has the highest Hygiene rating of 5. They haven't room for tables and chairs, but outside there is a strategically placed bench where hungry walkers can sit and savour the crispy batter, the perfectly cooked fish with fabulous chips. What more could you ask for?

“Our second visit”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We moved into Gilwern 23 years ago and on that day we bought fish and chips for convenience. Our second visit was last Friday. In between there has been many owners but none as able as the current people. Everything is cooked to order. The battered fish was a large piece of loin cod really fresh. The chips were of a uniform size and excellent. My sister in law cannot eat batter so the fish was cooked in the microwave and was perfect. The facilities are spotless and the servers are friendly and anxious to please. Keeping control of my weight will avoid me making frequent visits but the occasional treat will be enjoyed.

We have been looking for a quality fish and chip shop for a while and have found one. Excellent food. Good service and exceptionally clean. Well done. Well worth driving eleven miles each way
