Owner description: Built in the late 13th century and reputed to be haunted by a past resident, this picturesque castle was built for King Edward I and is a perfect example of the "concentric castle" design.

Located within easy walking distance from accommodation in Conwy, the Castle along with the city walls makes for a wonderful day revisiting our past. The castle is user friendly in that you can climb the towers and view the Castle, Conwy with it's well preserved walls and the surrounding countryside. Some might find the climb and the height daunting but for those who get to the top of a tower will find the views breathtaking. A good tread on the soles of your shoes is a must. As opposed to many other castles we have visited, there are not many areas where access is restricted. We chose to forego a guided tour, making our own way around and found plenty of information / facts / history available to read as we went. The atmosphere here alone made us rate it as one of our favourite castles. A walk of the walls and a visit to the shop beside the castle where they display and sell medieval weapons, armour etc.added to our great day out. Standing beside the castle with sword in hand wondering how we may have fared in times gone by? An experience we will definitely remember.

If you are in Wales please allow yourself some time to enjoy this medieval Castle at the place.
There is lots to see and the Castle is well looked after and a fantastic site to appreciate so make sure you allow some time because the pictures alone take time so remember that camera.
Go for a walk along the Castle walls and get the feel of what it would have been like during the time this was a living and lively place to live.
They have even built a railway bridge to match the Castle background this alone is a site to behold and not forget.
Thing happen around the Castle so take time to look around and enjoy the time you are there.
Don't miss this place off your visit to Wales or you will be sorry.
Enjoy the day.

Took our 6 year old here for the first time as he is mad on castles and knights.
My parents used to take me when I was young, so brought back some great memories. Really great day out. Special place and worth the climb up the towers.

I really loved rambling around this castle, it is quite magnificent but what makes a visit all the better is the lack of modern health and safety overkill, all the towers still have spiral staircases that you can climb, the views from the top are spectacular but it's the achievement of managing the climb that I found most satisfying. Well worth a visit

The thing I like about visiting Welsh castles. Is the fact they always seem to be be better preserved than their English counterparts. And Conwy is no exception.
We went during the Gwledd Conwy Feast so got half price entry.
There's a large entrance shop, with clean and modern toilets facilities down the stairs. The castle itself is large, and doesn't scrimp on accessible areas.
We are members of English Heritage and are often disappointed to find many areas blocked off. You don't get that here. Even the narrow winding stairwells which could have closed due to H&S are open, with a rope to guide you up and down the towers. The views along the walls are amazing. You can see boats, birds and the train track. The Kids are given a task on paper to do, and get a badge if they complete it. There was also a drawing comp on whilst we were there. so plenty to do and great for kids.

Well recommended.
