Owner description: Built in the late 13th century and reputed to be haunted by a past resident, this picturesque castle was built for King Edward I and is a perfect example of the "concentric castle" design.

Visited today and loved it, we even managed to keep our 4year old entertained for most of it! Some of the interpretation panels for kids were broke but still enjoyable and great value!

A fantastic example of a 13th Century medieval castle, well worth a visit. I took my elderley parents on a break in September 2013 back to my Dad's birthplace at Llandudno & he wanted to see Conwy for possibly the last time, where his father & grandfather were born. Dad was the last person to go through the escape tunnel with his Dad & Grandad from the castle into the town when he was a kid, but on speaking to the castle site manager, he was not aware of it's existence, so this will probably now be impossible to prove.

We also visited the large sheets of slate Dad's grandfather; William James Rowlands, made and erected in 1938 in Chapel Street at it's junction with Upper Gate Street, with English & Welsh words and spellings. These slates have a preservation order on them, as do the now sadly heavily-overgrown remains of William's house in Chapel Street. William owned the block of property between the junction of Chapel Street/Upper Gate Street and Erskine Terrace.

Thank andyrowlands

If you're around North Wales you'd be silly not to visit Conwy Castle. The castle itself looks amazing both inside and out, while from the towers you can get some truly breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and waters.
