Owner description: Built in the late 13th century and reputed to be haunted by a past resident, this picturesque castle was built for King Edward I and is a perfect example of the "concentric castle" design.

“One of the better castles”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

This castle is in a great state of repair - partially due to some restoration work. But even so, there is plenty to explore and you get a good sense of what the castle must've been like when it was in use.

Lots of wall-walks and tower-climbing and some great views from the taller towers.

Castle is in a lovely position overlooking the estuary and is easy walking distance from town centre. It would greatly benefit from some imaginative interpretive displays around the site. There is nothing here to excite the visitor or bring the history of the castle alive. There were a few faded, tired looking signs dotted around but nothing to stimulate interest especially among children. Very poor value for money if you're a family on holiday. Considering the unpredictable weather often experienced in Wales, it would benefit this attraction to have a short film presentation about the castle's history and an interactive display room.

“Magnificent castle”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

this is such an outstanding castle and once you get inside lots to explore, the view of the town, harbour and surrounding hills is wonderful from the top of the ramparts
there were seats inside the grounds to sit, the slope up to the entrance is very very steep then steps into the main part of the castle, there is a small drop of car park at the town entrance the car park round the back of the castle entails a fair walk to get to the main entrance for those not as able
well worth a visit a really nice town too

“Fantastic views!”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

I recently visited Conwy Castle whilst visiting friends. I arrived early to beat the crowds and still managed to spend a good couple of hours there. There is a lot of climbing but the views are fantastic :)

“Loved it.”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

Was last here around 16 years ago with our elder son and returned today with our other son. Entry was free as we were renewal Historic Scotland members. Very large castle in excellent order. Great photo opportunities too. Would like to have spent longer bilateral we were on a day trip. Shop very good value too. 10/10.
