“A good stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We had a good half term stay in Conwy YHA. The views from the dining room were beautiful and the good was good and the drink offer was a nice touch. The kids enjoyed the games room and the comfortable lounge with a good selection of beers! The surrounding area was lovely with plenty to do and see.

Good location with great views all around. Well equipped kitchen and dining room with a view. Excellent games room with pool table, board games, giant connect 4 etc to keep children happy. Staff friendly & helpful (as is the norm with YHA). Rooms spartan but comfortable enough. Easily enough to do in the area for a week or more.

We had a good stay at Conwy where the staff were friendly and welcoming. The hostel has superb views from the dining room. The food was fine, though not exceptional, and good value particularly with the free drink offer. There was lots of tourist information available but not the local cycle routes / walks advice that is normally available at hostels. Perhaps that reflects the nature of the area which has plenty paid attractions for families. This was clearly an excellent hostel for young families but also for couples like ourselves.

Our family had a great time at Conwy. The shared spaces are light and spacious. A good games room and plenty of areas to relax. The self catering kitchen is large and well equipped - and kept clean by centre staff despite large numbers of guests over the weekend. The dining room has the most amazing views across the estuary and up to the mountain range. Centre staff are very helpful and more than happy to help out with an inquiry. Local ales are stocked in the bar. The family room was a good size with an excellent shower in the ensuite. Our only negative comment is that the bedroom floor was in need of a more thorough vacuum cleaning session prior to our arrival.

Room Tip: just ask when booking. the centre staff are really happy to advise and help.

We planned to have a quick overnight with two days walking at Conwy for my husband's birthday. I used to visit Conwy when very small, so have wanted to return for ages. We weren't disappointed: The hostel itself is down a very private drive, and has simply stunning views. There is even an observation level up an extra flight of stairs. From our room we could see the castle and adjacent bridge, and the restaurant has panoramic views. All rooms were very clean and the staff were lovely - helpful and cheery (even when my son spilled milk 3 times at the breakfast buffet). There were two added bonuses: that we picked the same weekend as Gwledd Conwy Feast, so we altered our plans to have a shorter walk on the Saturday and spent the afternoon watching great live music and eating local food; we also found The Albion pub a short walk away, which is a local gem run as a joint venture between 4 local breweries.
The only downside, as ever, with Conwy was the lack of pub food or cafes after 5pm. Ate in at The Schooner fish and chip shop - best I've eaten.

Our family really enjoyed our short break at YHA Conwy. The family room was great and the good self catering kitchen, dining room and play area made meal times very easy and relaxed. The children enjoyed playing in the garden. Views are amazing.

Room Tip: Family rooms are great
