We recently spent a weekend at the Castle Hotel for my husband's birthday. We stayed in a "deluxe room" but were a bit disappointed in the standard of accommodation (for the price charged). We usually stay at the Quay Hotel at Deganwy and wanted to try somewhere different on this occasion but wished we had stayed at the Quay Hotel in the end. The prices are comparatively the same but the hotels completely different. The Spa Hotel is modern and minimalist whilst the Castle Hotel is old and steeped in history. As a result you'd expect the odd creaks and groans as you pass through the old building, so no problem with that, but the standard of decorating leaves a lot to be desired. In the bathroom there was paint peeling off the ceiling and the standard of bathroom fittings was poor. The staff were efficient and generally friendly but not overly attentive, which was fine, but we would rate the hotel a 3* rather than 4* - it was hard to see how the 4th star had been achieved.

Room Tip: Noise from the street late at night in hotel room at the front of the hotel. Back of the hotel, roo...

Could not ask for a better place. Located in Old Town and easy walking distance to anything in town (including the castle). Hotel has a pub and a great restaurant. Staff was super friendly!! Breakfast was yummy too!

Room Tip: Deluxe Double with castle views

well situated, clean and rather quirky room layout. the food was very good, not cheap but very good quality. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, the entrance to the rear car park is very narrow and there are not many spaces.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quieter than those on the front which is on the main road.

Spent five nights at the Castle Hotel during March. Enjoyed the cosy, historic atmosphere of the hotel. Had a single room overlooking the front street of Conwy. The room was nicely decorated and large for a single. There was free WIFI and a good radio that you could use with an iPhone to play tunes. I was in the middle of a 15 day vacation trip, but, still had to stay connected with work in the US. Spent several hours, over a couple of days, in the lounge with a computer and iPad both plugged up making progress on a project for work. It was easy to connect with email using WIFI. The lounge was a quite, comfortable place to work. I ate most dinners during the stay at the bar in the hotel. A lot of the food was local. It was a thoughtful, seasonal menu. Good food and great service. The location in the middle of Conwy was excellent too. It's an easy walk to the bus stop or train station to visit other parts of North Wales. I spent days in Llandudno, Caernarfon, and Betws-y-Coed. Also visited Bodnant Garden. Great trip. Highly recommend the hotel!

Booked as a very last minute stay, we were able to negotiate a reduced room price as the only available room was the Caer Rhun Suite - which is the best room in the house. It is worth the extra cost to stay in this room ! Unlike some hotels which advertise suites, and you get a sofa in your bedroom, this has a full separate lounge, bedroom, sumptuous bathroom and WC. The chilled complementary bubbles was also a very nice touch.

The hotel is quirky and original in its decoration - and it gives it a real uniqueness.

All of the staff were helpful and friendly and a credit to the hotel.

Breakfast is cooked to order - and a nice selection of local dishes, we did have a couple of service whoopsies, but they were dealt with effectively and with a smile - so they were all excusable.

The menu for lunch and dinner is really attractive. Lots of variation, lots of high quality local produce, and cooked and served to a high standard.

Highly recommended - for a relaxing stay

I stayed here a few weeeks ago and it was superb. The service and food were amazing and the location is perfect as it just a short drive to Llandudno were there is plenty to do for the day. I Would highly recommend this hotel for a business traveler or for the whole family.
