“Beautiful views, lovely quiet village, well furnished spacious house.”
Reviewed 8 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is well equipped and spacious and the view sepactacular. The house was clean and all the instructions very clear. Nearby Llangollen with the steam railway and canal gave us plenty to do. The local pub was good quality and good value too.

“Unbeatable home from home in North Wales.”

If, like us, your choice of holiday home demands perfection of location and property, look no further than Penlan Cottage in picturesque Carrog.

Situated on the banks of the River Dee some 12 miles beyond Llangollen, this is an attractive cottage on four levels with every possible amenity including its own grassy bank on the riverfront, a sublime terrace from which you will be unable to remove yourselves and accommodation that perfectly suits three couples, or, in our case a family of four.

Access to the A5 and most of the highlights of this lovely region is really easy. Don't miss the mountain railways, Llangollen, Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy and many other stunning localities. A bonus for trainspotters is Carrog Station 10 minutes walk away, currently the terminus for the Llangollen heritage railway. Unmissable, as is the nostalgic echo of steam and whistle down the valley.

The bedrooms are a decent size, the 2 bathrooms well-equipped, the living areas full of light and the sound of rushing water and the welcome pack generous to the extent of obviating any need for an immediate rush to the shops.

Don't agonise a moment longer. Just book it!

“perfect penlan”
Reviewed 27 June 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Very well equipped cottage in a wonderful location.
Perfect for families with children of 5 years plus. The stairs are steep and toddlers would need to be watched.
Excellent local pub. Great local walks

“Absolutely superb!”
Reviewed 31 May 2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed at the cottage at the end of march, 6 adults, 1 toddler & 1 dog! We arrived during some of the worst snow I have ever seen but we managed to reach the cottage safely. There was also a power cut but the property "helpers" who live just up the road were soon with us offering blankets and hot water bottles to keep us warm. Fortunately the power came back on and the heating soon had the cottage nice and cosy!

After all the excitement of the first day we took it easy on the following day but we did venture out to the pub just across the road to sample their recommended food. It was excellent and between us we tested the roast dinner and the lamb stew amongst other things.

The snow provided some stunning backdrops to the surrounding scenery and as the week progressed we were able to go further afield. There is plenty to see in the local area with something for everyone and you can travel that little bit further to reach places like Chester which is a lovely place and of course snowdonia is well worth a visit.

So in summary if you are looking for somewhere that feels like home this is the place. We are planning another visit where we will hopefully have some sunshine so we can sit out on the patio and fire up the bbq!

“Beautiful, well appointed cottage. Perfect location.”
Reviewed 23 March 2013 for a stay in February 2013

We went on a girly long weekend in feb to Penlan cottage and had a great time. The cottage is beautiful, perched on the river Dee with stunning views. Everything you could need is supplied at the cottage and the cottage itself is spotless and really lovely and homely. The owner was really accommodating and allowed us to leave a little bit later on in the day as no new arrivals coming in. Would highly recommend Penlan and we can't wait to go back.
