“Trying hard but must try harder”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

My wife and I recently stayed for two nights. The location is great, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff try very hard to please. We were disappointed with our evening meal. My wife's baked cod was over cooked and my chicken and bacon in tarragon sauce was bland, no taste to the sauce. From our arrival until there was background music playing,The Smiths greatest hits, after hearing the same songs over and over again I was ready to Hang the DJ! We didn't dine the second night! Over all, the hotel is fine but there seems to be something missing. I would consider staying again, but on a bed and breakfast basis, if they would have me back! I posted a similar review on their request, but it hasn't appeared on their website.

Room Tip: The rooms on the river side has balconies. The river may prove noisy but that's what you get wit...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay.

I'm glad that you can see how hard the staff work to ensure that all of our guests enjoy their stay to the maximum, and that the hotel's location was a positive for you. I am disappointed that after commenting that the rooms are clean and comfortable you only scored 3/5 for both aspects (in rooms and cleanliness, the lowest scores in your review). In regard to music, it's a bit hit and miss, and while we can offer a wide range, it doesn't always cater to people's tastes - perhaps Morrissey is not right for The Chainbridge!

Of course you would be welcome back at the hotel, and should you hear any music that you don't like, please feel free to ask the front of house staff if it's possible to mix it up a bit!

Kind regards
Seamus

Nature at its finest and wildest from the comfort of your own balcony. Hotel under continual renovation and improvement. Do visit Horseshoe falls at rear, start of the Llangollen canal. Enjoyed the food and drink served by friendly staff. Wanted to stay longer, says it all.

Room Tip: Must have river view.

It's sometimes hard to tear yourself away and back to reality, but we hope you'll revisit the hotel for some more peace and tranquility in the future.

The chainbridge hotel is set alongside the River Dee near Llangollen. The bar and restaurant overlooks the rapid running waters, of the river Dee. This is a real treat and you also get to see the old steam engine go by from this location.

At the rear of the hotel is the canal which you can walk alongside all the way to Llangollen.

The hotel has got its decor just right. It's clean, friendly and comfortable. It felt like a really special place, i was truly impressed, and would count it as one of my favourite hotels! It's not over priced either, even the evening meal is great value at £15 for three courses. Breakfast was plentiful and served with a smile. We will definitely be going to stay there again, and would recommend this hotel to all! It really was a fantastic treat!

The hotel itself is OK. The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathroom is adequate. The breakfast likewise. It is the location that makes the case for the hotel. The setting between river and canal is sensational. The restaurant, while nothing special, has great views over the river. Breakfast in the restaurant on a sunny morning is a treat. Top floor rooms require a trek so ask for something on a lower floor.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review after your recent stay. The hotel's location is certainly sensational and what makes the hotel truly unique. The other elements of your stay seem to have struck you as just average, which is a shame, but hopefully you'll come again one day and some more of the many compenents that affect your stay will be more agreeable.

Llangollen can get very busy.
Go 2 miles west up the A5, close to Berwyn Station but across the River Dee to the Chainbridge Hotel. You are immediately in a different world.
Don't be put off by the drab exterior or the dilapidated chain bridge, inside it is modern and tastefully furnished.
Sit in comfort either inside or outside on the veranda, order a drink and watch the river. We saw a Dipper and a Grey Wagtail. High up on the opposite side of the river we watched steam trains going to and fro.
You will rarely have a better location to sit and stare.
