The hotel position right over the river cannot be beaten - the sound and sight of the water makes up for the shabbiness of the rooms - dated furniture, faded fabrics (greasy headboard!) and dirty saucers BUT we stayed in Room 41 and the view was spectacular - it's on the corner and has two big windows overlooking the river and a little waterfall, with a balcony. The dining room is full of dark carved wood and breathtaking. The room was cheap but beware! When we arrived early and asked for breakfast, we were charged £10 each for a bit of dry toast and a coffee! I understand times are hard, but when we got the bill for this it spoiled an otherwise lovely stay. It could be a wonderful hotel.

We first found the Chainbridge hotel during the summer whilst travelling past on the steam train and thought how idyllic it looked. We decided to book for a weekend away with some friends. The hotel lived up to its expectations, the location was fantastic, our bedrooms had balconies overlooking the fast-flowing river which was mesmerising. The hotel was nice and clean, maybe a little dated, but that just added to its character.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The first morning of our stay our breakfast was served to us, and the following morning it was self service, but both were equally as nice. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant which was delicious.
We will definitely return and would recommend this hotel to anybody requiring a relaxing break away from it all.

Great hotel. It's situated between a lovely slow moving canal on one side and a wide, racing river on the other! The breakfast room and restaurant is all glass and when you sit there in the morning or on an evening you actually look directly down to the water as it's raging past you! Lovely!

The bedroom we stayed in was kind of part of an annexe to the hotel. We had one of these rooms as we took our little dog with us (arranged prior to visiting). It was fairly small, but very warm and cosy and very, very clean. It could maybe do with a little modernising but I had no complaints at all. The rooms are double glazed so you don't hear the river outside. We had the window open a little as listening to the water was great to fall asleep to and wake up to.

The food in the restaurant is DELICIOUS! Breakfast and evening meal. I think there are bar meals to be had but we didn't try those. The staff are brilliant. Really hard working and always smiling. I did feel the 2 girls who were the only staff in the restaurant on an evening and at breakfast were rather overworked. All the time we were there it was the same 2 girls morning & evening. I did wonder when they got time off.

The reception staff are really friendly and approachable. The bar is well stocked and friendly. I would say there isn't really enough seating if there is more than 15 or so people though.

All in all a good weekend away and we would definately come back to this hotel in a very unusual setting.

Very nice place, with great scenery. Ask for a room with a balcony to overlook the river and steam railway (Don't worry though, the double glazed windows and doors shut out all of the noise of the river and infrequent steam trains)
Delisious buffet breakfast consisting of all of the usaul full english items.
Decore and carpets were a little 'Retro'
Good bar and bar meals, with the option of a proper resteraunt meal. Friendly staff.
Next time I visit North Wales I will definitley consider using the Chainbridge Hotel again.

  • Liked — The great view from balcony, breakfast, bar.
  • Disliked — The 80's wallpaper and carpets, my roomy snoring to loud.

Well what can I say!!
This hotel is a hidden treasure....I mean the Hotel itself and the kind and ever willing staff!
Would just like to add..I am glad that smoking is prohibited in the rooms aswell as anywhere else in the hotel....how gross would that be...having to stay in a room when someone had been smoking in there
keep up the good work all the staff at the chainbridge!!
See you very soon

a beautiful spot , that is where the hotel is , sandwiched between the canal and the river one would think this would and could be a goldmine.
our rooms were quite frankly dirty , my mum decided to clean hers herself..we didnt bother , but we did commit the heinous act of smoking in a smoking room that we had booked.
this was duly observed by the local stutzstaffeln and we were severely reprimanded.
the management seem very confused as to the laws about smoking in hotel rooms in wales and even more confused by pricelines booking criteria.
breakfast was good though , when you managed to find someone to show you to your table , the beer was also nice but getting someone to serve it to you proved difficult on occasion.
i have just received an email 2 months after writing to complain and after contacting head office.
they would prefer people like me to stay away and feel that my email address is indicative of my intelligence..hey ho.
my advice would be to get a tent and camp in the idyllic location , that way you will get the view without the patronising , unprofessional and , frankly , unhygienic experience of staying at the chainbridge.

My partner and myself had decided to take a well earned break from our usual busy lives and just decided to drive to North Wales. Upon our arrival in Llangollen we decided to take a trip on a stream train, what took us past what we class now to be our little oasis. as we were taken past The Chainbridge hotel on the train we decided that we had to go and find it and take a look. When we asked in town for directions to the hotel the locals were very helpful and friendly and told us where exactly to find it. As we arrived there we parked in a car park situated above the hotel and were at first a little disappointed as we thought that this was the only car park and it was down some rather old steps. But on getting down the steps we found there was another car park by the hotel. We waked in a were greated by a very helpful and polite young lady who offered to show us round. We instantly fell in love with the room and it's wonderful views. Our room had it's own balcony even. We took it as you can guess. We settled in and felt at home right away. The only down side with the room was the bathroom although very clean it was a little dated but hay. We were only going to stay one night in llangollen and were going to move on deeper into wales but we decided that we had to stay here and travel out for the days after sampling the Chefs cooking in their Delightful resturant and spending time with the wonderful and polite staff. We will most definatly be back and have recommended it to all our friends and family.

  • Liked — The Views and Staff
  • Disliked — The only down fall was the dated decor in the bathroom
