We went to the Chainbridge Hotel - it is in a beautiful setting - but is well past its prime. We got the information from an advert in the Times newspaper and so were expecting something special. The hotel - although supposedly undergoing refurbishment (only saw a pair of step ladders propped up against a wall to confirm that theory), was desparately in need of decorating, it also smelt musty when going up the stairs. The room was fine - but the bathroom was outdated and not particularly nice. The chain bridge that the hotel is named after is derelict and unusable. There was an old photo in the hotel of the original house and chain bridge and it looked much better then.
The food was mediocre even though they say they have excellent chefs, we ate in the restaurant and the bar - I'm sure my chicken was microwaved hot.
Worst of all was the fact that the River Dee, which runs alongside the hotel was EXTREMELY noisy and the hotel was very hot meaning you had to have a window open at night - making it virtually impossible to sleep.
I would say that for an afternoon tea its fine - the staff are very nice and the views are fantastic - and there are some nice walks nearby.
