A lovely hotel spoilt by a few details. We had a suite (Room 14) consisting of a bedroom, sitting room, lobby with wardrobe, and bathroom. The bed was comfortable, as were the setees and chairs in the sitting room (one was a settee-bed, ideal for families). Decor was clean and tidy and the cleaning well attended to. Bedside tables were actually rattan-topped stools which meant that stopping a glass of water getting in the radio was interesting.
Now, the oddities. Soap only provided (at £70 one expects at least shampoo) but there was nowhere to put it in the shower! Friend staying there had the same problem so perched it on top of the shower power supply, only to find half-used bars from previous users! Only one sachet chocolate drink provided in a double room. And the dreaded UHT milk! A supposed 'continental' breakfast was included but actually consisted of ceral, tinned garpefruit or package orange juice, yoghurt, toast and jam. No marmalade! Amazingly, after I had asked for it on the first day there was still none on the second, yet this hotel is yards from the shops. No rolls or croissants. Good coffee though. There was a cooked breakfast for GPB 5.00 extra with the standard selection of bacon, sausage etc. but no other choice, only deletions from the full monty.
Tried to eat there in the evening but no tables, which presumably means that the locals must find it OK for evening meals. There is a superb resteraunt nearby though.
Would we go again? Probably, but hope they will pay attention to these details - they make all the difference.

I booked 3 rooms at Gales for a weekend stay for Quiltfest in Llangollen this year, 2 singles and a double.

Gales is a cracking place to stay in a lovely artsy town, the home of the Eisteddfod.

The hotel has a small carpark, which requires some precise driving to get into and out of: the archway was not built with modern car widths in mind!

We stayed in the annex of the hotel (across from the wine-bar). Each of the 3 rooms we had booked was huge: all 3 rooms had 2 large, comfortable double beds in, and all rooms had a bathroom - which was the weak point of the room. Our bathroom was a little on the tired side, and would benefit enormously from a re-fit. However, the main part of the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, so I don't think it'll be long before the bathrooms are just as lovely as the rest of the hotel!

We didn't eat at Gales in the evening, although the menu did look very enticing & the wine-bar / restaurant is non-smoking, which meant that there was absolutely no staleness in the air the following morning when we went down for our breakfast.
The breakfast included in the B & B rate was 'continental' - cereals, toast, fruit, yogurt etc., but you could help yourself to as much as you wanted, and the coffee was good! For an extra £5 you could have a full cooked breakfast, and those that did partake said it was lovely.

One word of warning: in the annex, at least, there is no lift - and there are rather a lot of stairs! There are also stairs in many of the rooms taking you down to the bathrooms, so the hotel is definitely not suited to those with impaired mobility.

In conclusion, this is a good, family-run hotel, where I will definitely stay again the next time I go to Llangollen!

Bedroom was extremely well renovated and furnished. The wine bar is an excellent place to stay for meals, with interesting menu, friendly staff and good wines.
