“Trip to Llyn Coastal Path”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

On trip to do Llyn Coastal Path, this was the first night for three of us. I'd always been interested in staying in Llangollen, so this was a nice opportunity, and the position of the hotel is superb, right above the River Dee where it cascades under Llangollen bridge. In fact you could go to sleep and wake up listening to the river.
The staff were very accommodating, including when some other guys joined us the next morning to head off to our long-distance walk, and breakfast was good. Don't know about evening food though as we went out for some beers and a curry at the excellent Samirah Spice.

We stayed for a week, room lovely and clean with fabulous views over the River Dee. Just feel a bit of money is required to spend on the place to make it a great place to stay. The majority of the staff were brilliant and the breakfasts superb.

We stayed two nights at the Royal Hotel in Llangollen and wished we had booked somewhere else. The double room was a good size and very clean, but the mattress was lumpy and I had trouble sleeping both nights. Blankets covered the bed, although we did find a quilt in the wardrobe.
The building is old, but we didn't mind that. There was no double glazing in our room, adding to the noise outside. Opposite is a church and the chimes are very loud every hour, on the hour, even during the night.
The situation of the hotel was very good, next to the river Dee with beautiful views, and close to some good restaurants and tourist places.
Contrary to what some people said about breakfast, I wasn't impressed. I considered it less than average.
The staff was very friendly and we have no negative comments about them.
Overall, I would not book this hotel again if I go to Llangollen again.

Great service. If you looking for independently run hotel with plenty of charmthem visit The Royal in Llangollen. Rooms quirky, floors uneven. Real feeling of staying in Victorian hotel! Fantastic breakfast too!

What has been said about this hotel is probably all true. It is certainly well placed as it is in the centre of the town and the sound of the rushing waters of the River Dee could be heard and seen from the room used.

It was no doubt at sometime, probably a long time ago, a very prestigious hotel, that has now seen better days with it’s extremely tired look. The room occupied that said, was clean and freshly painted and with new sanitary ware in the bathroom. The over the bath shower was particularly poor with little pressure and situated so you had to stand immediately under it to get wet.

The twin beds were very close together with little room to separate them, and the use of sheets and blankets, I thought went out years ago. That said they were comfortable enough.

The hotel had many styles of carpet throughout with an interesting choice of colours on the stairs leading to the dining room.

Stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and have to say the food was of good quality, except for the rather basic value sausages. There was plenty on the plate with the full English breakfast and a good choice of cereals and fruit juices. Service was good despite being busy on a couple of the mornings.

The staff were certainly not local, but accommodating when asked for anything.

A hotel that was ok for an all male golfing break, but would certainly not take my wife to this establishment.

Room Tip: Near to the river for good views

We stayed for two days in April. Yes, the hotel is old & yes a little tired BUT we had a great stay.
The room was spotless & had a wonderful view. We were made so welcome by the staff & the building had a lovely atmosphere.
The breakfast was lovely, fresh & lots of it, it was served by a wonderfully efficient gentleman on his own, nothing was to much trouble.
We would love to return soon........

Room Tip: Our room was 219 - lovely view over the bridge & river

We have just returned from a nights stay at the Royal. We requested a room with a view and the owner put us in 203. Brilliant views of the Bridge and River, nice and quiet and a very comfy bed. The breakfast was very good and hot and The manager was friendly and helpful and sorted out a parking space across the road for us.We went for drinks up the road at the Wynstay and had a lovely meal at the Gallery. Altogether another good weekend away and the Hotel was very good and in a perfect location.if you don't mind a hotel that is a bit worn but clean and comfy, with excellent management, staff and location then book the Royal.

Room Tip: Room 203 overlooks the river and has a window looking down the river and one looking at the bridge a...
