Maybe because of all the rave reviews that preceed mine I was expecting too much but the place was much smaller and basic than I had expected from the website.
The owner was very friendly and all the staff too. Our room was quite small but commendably clean and comfortable. Similar comments about their room from our friends. The major disappointment for us was the food. We were not expecting posh stuff but all the previous comments had us expecting really good pub grub. However we were not impressed. For example, the fish in my wife's fish & chips was clearly of the kind that is frozen with the batter on rather than fresh fish battered in the kitchen. However on the plus side the staff were courteous and efficient. Breakfast was pretty good although a disappointment was the yellow spread rather than butter. For any real ale fans out there (like me) there were just 2 beers from the Theakston range - Old Peculiar and XB. The XB was in good nick, didn't try the OP. Wine choice very limited but what we had were quite decent and good value. So, overall it is clean and friendly but the best I could say about the food is "ordinary". Although I have to say there seemed to be an awful lot of people driving there to eat the ordinary food!More
