“A very pleasant place to stay with great views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

We stayed here for 1 night on the spur of the moment.
It was August and a lot of other places were fully booked but there was a cancellation here and so we were lucky.
A nice quiet spot at the back of the village across a 'weak bridge', although my 4x4 was OK but there is a sign nether the less.
We had a room facing the river and valley and although the weather was not at it's best, the view was still worth it.
Breakfast was also a treat as waiter served and very pleasant along again with the view.
A decent sized car park at the front although when we came back late we struggled to find a spot which shows that it is popular.
Would definitely return here again as it was a really nice 1 night stay in a beautiful part of the country!

Room Tip: We had a side facing room which faced the valley and river which was a nice view.

although 'Country House Hotel' is, frankly pushing it a bit. They don't provide lunch, unless you count 'packed' so it hasn't really got country house hotel facilities as I understand the term. There is a good car park at the front of the hotel so you wouldn't call it a B & B either. Good value at under £100 a night for a double ensuite room !
Although we weren't able to sample dinners during our weekend stay - we ate elsewhere through reasons beyond our control - the menus looked appetising. I was a little bemused to notice other guests choosing their dinner at 10 a.m. but realised that with the small numbers involved (12 rooms) this early choice would allow the hotelier to buy in fresh produce, once he knew exact quantities. At least, I hope that's what was happening!
The hotel has been run by ex Fleet Air Arm helicopter pilot Kevin and his wife Lyn for the last 13 years and they do what they do do pretty well. We didn't meet Lyn, as Kevin seems to carry out much of the front of house stuff, extending to making breakfast and dispensing with laconic humour the locally sourced bottled beer and other drinks from the small bar. Sensibly he has kicked draught beer into touch. With the small numbers involved, he wouldn't have been turning it around quickly enough for the beer to remain palatable. See other entries for evidence . . .
The rooms are comfortable - the beds especially so. We slept exceedingly well during both nights of our stay. Our bathroom was modern, although we had to be light on our feet in the shower to avoid the rapid temperature changes when our neighbour was drawing water at the same time!
The breakfasts were excellent, although the bacon was better than the rather ordinary sausages. Lightly smoked haddock with a perfect poached egg too on the second day - yum!! Charmingly and efficiently served by pleasant staff in a roomy and airy dining room, breakfast was very enjoyable.
The hotel is delighfully situated a short walk from the lovely village of Beddgelert, which has its heart-wrenchingly sad tale of poor, brave Gelert, the dog, who was cruelly and unnecessarily slain by his rather impetuous master. There are breathtaking views from many of the windows of the hotel and the Ffestiniogg light railway runs by, a short walk away if you fancy going to wave at the trains (we did!). Also the extremely attractive confluence of two steams is in the centre of the village with a long footbridge suspended over the spot. The resultant main stream enjoys pleasant footpath walks on both East and West banks.
All in all, a delightful weekend retreat. I'd go again.

What a beautiful grand hotel that stands back from the main town, surrounded by stunning scenery. The hotel is warm and friendly with every bit of everything you could ever need to make your stay something special and to be remembered. The rooms have stunning views ours was room 17 and had a view over the river. I didn't want to leave. The place is immaculate throughout. The rooms have a bath which made a difference to me after a walk up mount Snowdon a bath was like heaven. The tea and coffee making facilities were replenished daily with plenty of milk, even the biscuits were replenished daily. Lovely touch. The breakfast in the morning was beautiful and served up by 2 of the loveliest staff I have ever met. Always smiling and the both of them went that extra mile to look after all the guests.( Thank you) There is free WIFI in the hotel which makes a difference in such a remote area especially if you need to keep in contact with people via e mail for business purposes. We will definitely be staying here again that's if we don't buy a cottage there first because the whole area of beddlegert is extremely enchanting. This is the one time when I'm not happy to be home.

The title says it all! We stayed a couple of years ago and this place has been on our "go again" list ever since, so we did and are delighted. Just as good as we remembered!

The owners are great, and the Hungarian(?) waiter and waitress (who I suspect make up the rooms as well) perfectly charming.

Can't ask for more.........just don't tell anyone else - I don't want it fully booked when I try to arrange our next stay!

Kevin and Lynn have strived hard over the last 13 years, to make this the most perfect Country House Hotel to match and exceed the quality of those in the local surroundings. We have been coming here year after year, because you get the warmest welcome, its perfect setting, excellent food, immaculate rooms and most importantly for us is that its dog friendly. In a way, I'm reluctant to write such a good review: because we want to secure our room for next year also. You have to book early (very good sign) to avoid disappointment, as they are constantly busy. The perfect place to stay in Beddgelert!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good size and each room is bright, but room 17 is our favourite (Doh!)

What a beautiful place to stay. Beddgelert is a favorite place of ours in Wales but we have never stayed in accommodation until now. This hotel is worthy of a 5* rating. It is ideally situated, in a peaceful valley. It is spotless clean and the breakfast is wonderful. I would like to commend the staff on their friendliness, they were so polite and courteous, nothing was too much trouble. One young lady in particular, I believe her name was Rennie, was wonderful. She was the most polite person I have ever met, with perfect manners, friendly personality and was always glad to help. We will most definitely be staying here again and will be recommending to family and friends. Another bonus was it is a 'dog friendly' hotel, and whilst we didn't have a dog with us, it was nice to see other families with their dogs sat outside on the patio enjoying food and drinks. Well done Bryn Eglwys!!
