Stayed here 1-5 Sep 2013 as part of a coach tour. Interesting hotel in a beautiful little village nestled in the Snowdonia mountain range. Stayed in Room 17 on the 1st floor. Fair size bathroom with good power shower, bathroom window didn't shut properly but not a problem with the weather being warm. Bedroom fairly comfy - tv, tea/coffee making facility which was replenished every day. Beds ok if a little hard. Lots of creaking floorboards but added to the ambiance! Staff very friendly and cheerful. Food very good, plenty of choice even for me as a vegetarian, and always served piping hot. If you want The Ritz, then this isn't for you. If you want an interesting hotel in a little Welsh mountain village, this will suit fine. No complaints, it is what it is. Oh, and do check out the village, very pretty with a river and good evening walks.

We stayed for 2 nights late August. Firstly, I would comment that the staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant on Friday night and that was very pleasant and reasonably priced.

However, the rooms were very tired and badly in need of a complete refurbishment. As mentioned by someone else in a previous review, the rooms appeared clean on first entrance but were actually quite grubby. In defence of the staff, their job is made harder by the poor state of repair of the rooms - lots of nooks/crannies for dust and grime to accumulate - peeling paint (particularly bad on the ceiling of our shower in room 20). The shower room was dark/dingy.

It's a shame is in a great location and appreciate that a makeover would cost a fortune. It also lacks scope for development as there appears to be little outside space and the car park is across a busy(ish) road.

I thought the rooms were very expensive - we stayed last year in a 5* B&B with superb facilities at exactly the same price!
Finally, what's with the Bill & Ben models outside the front?

We booked at very short notice and were pleased to find a hotel where we could take our dog [£7 extra] We booked primarily for the location ( perfect for walking in spectacular countryside and central to all of the National Park) but found the food was good, both dinner and breakfast, the room quiet [ no fire alarms!] and the bed comfortable . Clearly the hotel needs some updating here and there, it is really huge and must always be a work in progress, but a ready welcoming smile from busy staff and a table by the window reserved for us even on a busy bank holiday made it a very pleasant place to stay.
Good walks from the door and a vast area to explore in any direction with or without the use of a car.
The dining room at the front is used for dinner and there is a second grand room for breakfast,

Stayed there one night in July on a hiking trip through Wales. This is not a bad place (though, as other commenters underneath, I had the pleasure to be there on a night with fire alarm, I suppose they have fixed the problem now :-)), but the price was some 25 % higher than in other hotels I met on the same journey with no obvious value for this price. Oh, I remember, the cold water tap did not work either, this is not so good indeed.

Food was OK but not more than that.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with partner and friends. On first appearance the hotel looked very inviting and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food, we all thought was very mediocre and expensive for quality and portion size. Ales were all very good and fairly priced.
The hotel as a whole is in dire need of an extensive makeover and a deep clean, it feels very unloved. Rooms appeared clean on first entrance but wouldn't pass a closer inspection, with no attention to detail given. Furniture all felt quite tacky and sticky and there was a musty presence in the air. The shower was dismal!!! The beds were in need of replacement and mattress uncomfortable, the pair of us were itching after sleeping at the Royal Goat.
Talking to one chap in the bar who told me he was woken by water dripping on to his bed at 2.30 am and the staff simply moved the bed away from the leaky roof.
I feel it very disappointing that the establishment appears to take advantage of the tourists being attracted to this beautiful area and is charging a premium to its captive audience but not delivering a premium service.
Would I return to the Royal Goat? I'm afraid not...

Stayed in the hotel for two nights during a Snowdon climbing session.
The hotel gained Royal assent in the Victorian era and to be honest we found that it probably had not change much since then. The public carpeted areas and stairs need to be replaced, the decor is tired.
The rooms had a make over in the bathroom, but did not have an extractor fan, the window painted and unable to open, the window frame black with dirt gained over the years. The beds and mattresses need replacing, the room was musky on our entrance despite the window in the room being left open. Although the bedding had been changed the room it appeared had not really been cleaned, dust everywhere, spare blanket thrown into the wardrobe.
Having said this, the staff were very friendly helpful and informative. The food both breakfast and dinner were of a good standard.
A good location for the outdoor activities of the area, but it needs some attention.

Great location, nice large rooms, good service.

The overall impression was good and the food was excellent. Surprisingly the Carribean Chicken Curry was Hot!

Only downside...the fire Alarm that went off on the first night at 4.30.....4.55....5.15.....6.00.....and so on. Thankfully the second night was peaceful

Welcomes dogs
