“A hidden gem...”

We booked this hotel at the last minute and how fortunate we were that they had availability. After a very long and difficult journey I was slightly nervous of the road leading to the hotel and the driveway as most reviews mentioned this - I can't say it was my favourite bit of our stay but as long as you take it slowly, there really isn't anything to worry about. I did it all again the following day and it really isn't as bad as you might think. I had my husband take a photo and was pleasantly surprised by how much space there actually was around the car.

On arrival, we were warmly greeted first by the owner’s cats (relaxing in the sun at the top of the drive), then by their recently adopted Highland terrier and finally, by Ruth. We were shown to our room with a mini tour thrown in for good measure and, by the time we had unloaded the car, felt thoroughly relaxed and at home. The animals do not come into the hotel and I think Ruth and her team have more issues with sheep eating the flowers in the garden than the cats trying to sneak in for a cuddle.

The room we stayed in (No 7) was very pleasant and had a lovely patio area out the back with a view over the mountains. If I had to find fault I would say that the furniture and decor is a little dated but, did it impact my stay, not at all. There was plenty of hot water, clean towels, a hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities and even biscuits - you don't get that in many modern hotels...

We came down for dinner at around 1830 hrs and, after a gin and tonic in the bar, were given the choice of tables in the conservatory or the dining room. The food was amazing and the wine list had clearly been carefully considered as there was something to go with everything on the menu. I started with the goat's cheese salad and my husband had the homemade mackerel pate - both were lovely. We both had the lamb shank and it really did live up to the reviews - beautiful.

After dinner was a little strange as you feel like you are staying in someone's house without having to socialise with them! We found ourselves a little corner to finish our drinks and natter but, if we were to go to Sygun Fawr again, I would pack some cards or a board game. The hotel is incredibly peaceful which is great but, being used to the hustle and bustle of London, complete silence freaked me out a bit!

Breakfast the following morning set us up for our climb up Snowdon (main car park is a 15 min drive from the hotel – get there early as it fills up quickly and make sure you have cash) and, despite forgetting to order it the night before, providing a packed lunch was no problem and we both had yummy ham sandwiches with doorstop bread. You can help yourself to fruit from the breakfast selection as well. The breakfast was very good with plenty of tea and coffee, cereal, fruit, fruit juice and toast. A full fry up went down very nicely and it was the perfect sized portion although there are plenty of other options if you prefer.

You are asked while you are having breakfast whether you will be staying for dinner and, if so, what you would like to order. This did throw me a bit as I never know in the morning what I will fancy in the evening but it wasn't a real issue and, as everything is cooked fresh, I can understand why they do it.

I can't remember what starter we both had on the second night but we both had the steak for our main and it was probably one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. It was cooked exactly how I asked for it (medium rare and my husband medium well) and it was served with lovely homemade chips.

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly, we all got into the habit of saying good morning etc to each other and the staff are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble and they seem to really enjoy engaging with the guests. There is a TV room if you want to catch up but we didn't bother - very nice not to have the TV for a few days. You can get Wi-Fi pretty easily in the bar and conservatory but don't both in the dining room or bedrooms, the walls are too thick. There are walking maps and weather forecasts up on the notice board and a selection of brochures available if you are unsure what you would like to do or what is available. The village is a short walk / drive away (there is a better walking route than the road which Ruth will tell you) and, having seen the other hotels in the area, I was so pleased that we were tucked away in Sygun Fawr.

Do beware, it would appear that Welsh midges are as vicious as Scottish ones as I found out the hard way – insect repellent is recommended…

I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends and hopefully we will have a chance to go back at some stage.

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

this hotel is not only located in a beautiful surrounding but the service is excellent. Ruth's kitchen is outstanding and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We were on our honeymoon with our children (aged 5 and 10) and Ruth also did her best to provide a little meal for the children (at very low cost). The room was perfect and we felt very welcome. If we go to Snowdonia again we will certainly stay there again. Ruth and also Petra and istwan thank you very much!

Last minute booking, but what a find. Only stayed for the weekend, but will return on next visit. Very friendly staff, checking you had all you needed. Our room was spacious, with wonderful views. Breakfast was all you could ask for. We stayed for evening meal 1 night, the choice was good, and didn't fail to please on taste. Fabulous location, narrow lane to get from road to house, so a note to be aware. If you want something different, with warm welcome and in the heart of walking mountains of Wales, then i truly recommend Sygun fawr country hotel.

Room Tip: Room 12 was fantastic. Large queen bed, wonderful views.

I booked a two day break on late rooms for my husband & I..... I had never visited Wales before although my husband had many years before as a boy, when this hotel came up it seemed the perfect place for us... And we couldn't of chosen better if we tried, the location of the hotel is breathtaking although it is a way up a single track hill so wouldn't recommend for disabled or elderly, the staff was most welcoming & very kind & helpful, our room was clean & homely, although no television in the room which was a bit disappointing & the noise from the toilet disposal very noisy....
We also found the bar to be very minimal, choice of drinks not great.
We did not eat evening meal in the hotel as we preferred to explore the many restaurants on offer, but the breakfast choice was fantastic covering all tastes, the full grilled breakfast is to die for, lol...
I would strongly recommend this hotel, & we are looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the mountains, breathtaking.

We have found a beautiful house to stay in near the village of Beddgelert in North Wales.
It is called Sygun Fawr Country House. The location is fantastic at the foot of Sygun
Mountain. The food cooked by Ruth and served by her Superb team is first class. The rooms and public areas are excellent.
We were only there for the weekend but had a lovely time and we will return.

Room Tip: All the room are described on their website, just chose what you want.

The beauty of the 1644 welsh manor house does not fall short from expectations, closely resembling the spectacular hillside that surrounds the hotel, leaving some guest in awe. For those looking for a peaceful hotel with a host who adores her guests, food to look forward to and a landscape to admire, I would recommend visiting the Sygun Fawr Hotel.

Location:
-The hotel is situated just above a peaceful village surrounded by breath taking landscape, with plenty of signs to point you in the correct direction. However, some caution should be taken when travelling up the steep and somewhat narrow path to reach the hotel and would advise travellers to be prepared to change into first gear when approaching. There is only one passing point on the lane so it is not recommended to travel at night as reversing down the hill would seem somewhat precarious.

Welcoming:
-Upon arrival, myself and my partner was greeted wonderfully by the owner, Ruth, who quickly showed us to our room. Ruth's knowledge of the local attractions made our trip so much more enjoyable as she suggested plenty of walks and activities for both beginners and those looking for a challenge.

Room #5 (Standard double £85)
-We stayed in room 5 over the first weekend of August which had a wonderful view of the hill tops. The room overall was very tidy and clean and provided a full set of towels, complimentary biscuits and hot chocolate. However, the room itself was on the smaller side and did not provide a television, something that is generally expected of hotels for the price we paid. Being situated in the older part of the hotel, naturally the walls are thin, this led to some disturbance during the night. The bathroom is aesthetically modern however, the only small issue with this room in particular is the toilet. When flushed, the toilet requires a pump due to the pipeline being upwards, this create a pumping noise which may be distracting. But, for myself and my partner we were not too disturbed by the noise as it is essential for the toilet to work correctly. Finally, the hotel does provide internet but, during peak times the connected may fluctuate.

Breakfast:
-A huge range of choice is available for breakfast, from yogurt with jam, a full grilled (same as full English) or simply fresh fruit, the breakfast is something that is worth waking up at 8am for. Also a kind note, the servers are very polite and always smiling.

Dinner:
-We did not have the opportunity to experience Dinner at the Sygyn Fawr Hotel, however, their dinner is listed on the 2014 Michelin restaurant guide.

Checkout:
-The time to leave is at 10:30, and we left on the dot with no problems. Ruth and her staff offered to help with luggage which was a kind gesture.

Room Tip: Room 5 is not for light sleepers.

My partner and i found Sygun Fawr a beautiful, peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday life's. It was a last minute booking and what a find on Google!. In the middle of no where is an hidden gem.
The drive way up to the b and b is narrow and so you must be wary of pedestrians as there is only room for a cars width. But the scenery and surroundings are stunning.
As soon as we got out of the car the owner Ruth greeted us with a smile and a lovely warm welcome.
Our Room number 1 was small but cosy and very comfortable and accommodated a king size bed and en-suite facilities. The only down sides to the room its self if being picky was there was cobwebs in some corners of the ceilings and there was a little mould on the ceiling but expected for the age of the building. And the bathroom had a sewage smell at times so felt an air freshener or two wouldn't go a miss. But it was an extremely hot weekend so this may not of helped.
But the view from the bed was truly mesmerizing, has we were looking straight at the welsh mountains.
The rooms have no television facilities but that wasn't a problem as you can watch the one in the sitting room if you wanted. We just enjoyed relaxing and talking to each other with no distractions!! But i could get Wifi access in Room 1.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly and when we went down for breakfast they couldn't do enough for us and Steven the guy serving us was very pleasant and caring and helpful and made you feel very relaxed. The breakfast was lovely cooked to a high standard and very tasty.
After we arrived back from our day out, our room facilities had been topped up including more biscuits!! which was a nice touch as in the past found you only get this on arrival in some places. The bed was remade and towels, toilet roll all restocked.
The garden outside was so peaceful and what a beautiful place to sit out and enjoy the views and surroundings. And we could hear the welsh highland train whistle at times.
There is limited mobile phone signal at Sygun Fawr we were on O2 and Vodafone both networks we couldn't get any signal not even in village. But there is a payphone downstairs and in village if needed.
Overall we found it a very romantic , relaxing break and we would definitely return in the future.
It was a much needed break for us both and we really enjoyed it. Getting away from modern technology was a breath of fresh air for us both and gave us time to enjoy each others company again. The village itself accommodates pubs, eating places and ice cream shops and has beautiful walks for you to view the surroundings and take in the welsh air.

Room Tip: Room 1 was situated on the first floor at the front of the house stunning views of the mountains and...
