“Cosy cottage in beautiful part of Wales”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We stayed here for one week with our baby daughter. The cottage was really warm and cosy, with everything we needed for our stay, and the small touches from the owners (e.g. leaving a bottle of wine as a welcome gift) were really appreciated. The location is perfect to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.

“A tidy little cottage with everything you need for your stay”
Reviewed 17 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Sygun Cottage is in the hamlet of Nant Gwynant, just under three miles north-east of Beddgellert on the A498, which is in itself a fantastically scenic road.

The apparently standard "Welcome Package" of wine, flowers, tea, coffee and milk was most appreciated after enduring the parking on the M6 around Birmingham. We were quickly installed in the two up, two down cottage, with en-suite facilities to both bedrooms.

Local supermarkets apparently deliver to the site, which is handy for internet shoppers, but there's a big Tesco only nine miles away at Porthmadog. The area is littered with narrow gauge steam railways for those interested but there's plenty else to see as well, with a good choice of National Trust properties. On top of that, pretty much every attraction in north-east Wales is within an hour's drive of the cottage.

If you're looking for a cosy little cottage with all the appropriate facilities and easy access to most anywhere in north-west Wales, you'd struggle to beat this. Wireless access can be purchased but you pray to unknown gods for a mobile signal!

“Excellent cosy cottage close to Watkins Path”

Stayed in Sygun cottage for a weekend to climb Snowdon using the Watkins path and loved it! Cottage was warm on arrival, keys were accessible in a little safe box and there was a complimentary bottle of wine! Showers had great pressure and beds were supremely comfortable. Living room had ample space to play board games and there was even a PS2 with games which was lovely and nostalgic. Kitchen had all the utensils needed and was clean and tidy. Parking was available right outside on the grass verge.

Email responses were rapid and friendly and location was excellent, no problem reaching it with GPS!

My only qualm was the need to pay extra for wifi which we didn't purchase but would have been nice to have combined in the overall package.

Overall, lovely place, easy to get to and perfect for climbing Snowdon using the Watkins path!

Sygun cottage is warm, cosy and relaxing. Its a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful mountains and lakes in Snowdonia. The cottage was clean and had all the basic facilities to enjoy a self-catering break. There were some nice touches such as wine, bread and milk on arrival. We would use the cottage again.

“Relaxing stay in a beautiful location”

Just returned from a short break in Sygun Cottage. The cottage was very homely and well equipped. On arrival we found some lovely little extras (wine, chocolates, flowers, bread, milk and tea and coffee) which was very welcome. We enjoyed the wine in front of the log fire after a long day out walking - perfect! The wifi connection was good, in fact probably better than we have at home. The cottage was lovely and warm on arrival and stayed warm the entire stay (even though it was cold outside).
The cottage itself had everything you needed and was set in lovely surroundings. We enjoyed the local walks as well as the the local Caffi Gwynant. We visited Beddgelert, Porthmadog, Criccieth, Rhyd Ddu, Borth-y-Gest and Black Rock Sands over the three days we were there and all were within easy reach.
The cottage is dog friendly and our dogs, Tobi and Meg absolutely loved their little holiday and were shattered by the end of each day of walks and running around.
We will definitely be returning and will recommend Red Dragon Holidays to friends and family. Thank you Claire for a wonderful stay.

“Fab cosy cottage in perfect location”
Reviewed 8 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We took our two children and two terriers to Snowdonia during half term week. We love Snowdonia as there is so much to do and this cottage was a brilliant place to stay. We particularly valued being able to arrange Tesco's to deliver all our food before we arrived, the excellent beds and feather duvets, the wood burning stove which is a lovely on dark Autumn evenings and the WiFi which is a must with teenage children. There are good walks straight from the cottage and nearby, and it is an easy drive both to the seaside and to other classic walks in Snowdonia. We have very busy lives and this was a great place to have a comfortable, relaxing break. We certainly plan to go back again.

“Lovely secluded cottage idea for walking Snowden and getting away with the dogs”
Reviewed 8 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We wanted to find a cottage to spend a short break away with our two Alaskan Malamutes (largish dogs) and it was increasingly difficult to find anywhere that had the location and would allow '2' dogs as well.

When I found this, it seemed perfect!

The Booking
I was after a specific date (due to heavy work loads my wife and I could only get certain dates off) and I contacted the owner directly. Claire was very quick to respond and was able to confirm the bookings and make the whole thing very pleasurable to do. My biggest worry was being able to take the dogs as a lot of places were really restrictive. Claire assured us it would be fine. We communicated all the way up the stay and it was lovely to meet her when we got there.

Sygun Cottage
You walk through the door into a quaint kitchen where Claire had left flowers wine and some sweets. We arrived late in the evening and she'd left lights on and the heating on so it was lovely and warm. The living room was cosy, the chairs were lovely to lounge on and Claire had left some coal and wood for the log burner as we had requested (there is a charge but trust me its worth it). We weren't able to connect straight to the wifi as we didn't know the details but Claire had advised us she would give this to us if we saw her the next day). Some people said the wifi wasn't very fast, I disagree. We could stream from sky go on our ipad which to me shows the broadband is pretty good. The stairs are steep in this cottage so be aware, they can be tricky with tired legs. The main bedroom is a nice size. The bed and sheets were lovely and my wife and I had no trouble sleeping our entire stay. The on suite bathroom is small but it does the job the shower had good pressure. I do suggest you take additional toilet paper, we'd forgot, there is some provided but you don't want to get caught short.
The second bedroom (bunkbeds) we didn't use but we did use the on-suite which was also very nice.
The other cottages under red dragon holidays were in use but I have to say we wouldn't have known it. It was so nice to get away to such a peaceful place. The Pods looked really good and I can image a big group of us staying there enjoying a few bottles of wine after a good hike on an evening.
My only negative comment would be the hot water tap in the kitchen, which barely provided any water but we would boil the kettle to get the dishes washed when needed.

Location
It is ideal for access to Snowden, being near the Watkin Path I don't think you could find anywhere to stay (with dogs) that could be any closer. I had always planned to walk the Pyg Track and Miners Track which starts at Pen-Y-Pass and its about 15 minutes drive from the cottage, parking is £10 and make sure you go early! I was able to get up early each morning and take the dogs out for a little walk, it is on a 'main' road if that's what you can call it but the traffic is light and you can get across to a track and have a wander away from everyone, and you get some pretty good views in the morning.
Where were visited
There are so many walks to do if you do your homework, we only had a short stay so we had to be selective, the first day we visited Beddgelert, a lovely village and had we been here for a week we would have tried the restaurants or pubs (many saying dog friendly) as it was we wanted to try our first walk. This was The Fisherman's Path, it follows the Aberglaslyn Pass and this is a beautiful walk. You do start to go into the hills and the walk does get more difficult so make sure you prepared but there are stunning views.
The next day we tackled Snowden and it was bright sun and blue skies. A great achievement and a day I'll always remember.

On our last day we visited Beets-y-coed and had a easy day strolling around, there are a lot more tourists here but its a nice village to spend a few hours in, there looked to be some great forests to walk through as well.

Summary
A great stay and somewhere we will definitely visit again. The dogs were brilliant and enjoyed their stay. Claire was very friendly, always replied to my emails and made the stay a pleasurable experience. I want to bring friends and family along next time and perhaps stay in the bigger cottages. Highly recommend.
