“Great site”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

A beautiful site that takes you back to nature! No signal for your mobile which was good, get away from the world. Squirrel's, rabbits, birds galore all within the complex. Owners and staff were very nice and helpful, you can even order fresh home made pizzas! If you feel like getting away from the hustle and bustle this is the place I can guarantee it.! Great walks, and bike ride routes. This campsite is very scenic. Word of warning if you have a large tent you will need rock pegs!!! Shower block could do with a bit of cleaning(mainly cobwebs) but its expected you are in the forest!

We visited this site two weeks ago, received a very warm welcome by the staff, but we came home two days early as it wasn't really what we expected, the showers urgently need a major revamp, they were awful, damp and mould and rusty in parts.....plus we felt there were not enough water points available for the amount of tourers there.......
The pitches themselves were ok, a bit close to each other for comfort for us, we could hear the people at night on both sides of us....
Weather was kind for this time of year... Lovely area of wales but would I pay that much again to stay at this site.... NO......

Excellent site that we have visited before as a family, some years ago. We were greated very warmly by one of the wardens. We had a nice chat with her and she let us know that our friends had arrived and where they were pitched. As we have a caravan we weren't pitching near them but it helped to know where they were. The pitches were hard standing with slate chippings as the bases. Good roomy size among the trees and not in the least bit regimented. We set up within easy reach of the toilets and showers. Speaking of which, these were kept absolutely spotless and well stocked with loo paper. Lots of rabbits and squirrels about and plenty of small birds. I was impressed with their bins as they had sliding doors so nothing flew around and no smells emanated from them.

I walked my older dog up the track that headed up to the Rhyd Dhu. We went for a mile or so up hill and again I was impressed with the upkeep of the track. On the second morning I took the other track up into the hills on a run. The views were excellent.

My only problem with this site is that on Summer evenings it is inundated with midges as I found to my cost on a previous visit. I was practically eaten alive.

As novice motor homers we were given a warm welcome. Due to the time of year we pretty much had the site to ourselves and found the facilities to be of a high standard and well maintained. Rob adviced us of a shorter walk where we could still take in Snowden but not tire the kids too much. We took his advice and visited the Tannoren Inn in the village for lunch and were not disappointed. Already planning a return to this beautiful part of the world during the summer months.

The wardens and bathroom cleaning staff were less than friendly; an air of cold authority that I have never encountered in all my years of camping. At every other campsite I have used over the years I have had warm welcomes and wonderful stays. No idea what was going on with the staff here, but they certainly didn't meet the standard of their great setting. Cheer up guys!
(NB. We stayed earlier than Dec 2012 but this is the earliest month it is possible to select)

Stayed here for 2 nights in our campervan. We had an electric pitch which was nestled in the forest and a great little spot with views of the mountains. A lovely stream runs through and the steam train hoots past every so often which you can catch from the site.
Facilities wise, well kept toilet/shower block but be warned the showers took 5 or 6 presses before getting warm! Laundry room with heated lockers for hire, ideal for drying boots etc. Shop was light on stock but there's a bus stop outside the gate and the village is quaint and busy.
Great place to base yourself for Snowdonia and to get back to nature in the forest. Not the place for people who like to keep their caravan floor spotless!

The Colwyn River runs right through the heart of the forest campsite and is a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life including species of otter and trout. You may also spot peregrine falcons, merlins buzzards and black grouse. There really is no better way to gain a more authentic forest experience from the comfort of your tent! For great pubs, a bistro, a cafe and several fascinating craft shops, Beddgelert village is just a mile from the site. The Sygun Copper Mine can also be found just outside of Beddgelert village. Walkers can follow the footpath along the banks of the Glaslyn River to Beddgelert's most famous historic landmark, Gelert's Grave. The nearest supermarket is approximately 9 miles away, as is the nearest Leisure Centre. Dogs are welcome on this campsite and there are toilets and showers. There is also a useful shop selling groceries and camping equipment. Please be advised that you will need to bring rock pegs and that there is no mobile phone signal on this campsite. ... more   less
