“Lived up to expectations”
Reviewed 16 July 2012

I came across Tan Dinas during my research on TA, I am a wee bit cynical so I wondered at all the fantastic reviews and thought to myself surely it can't be that good. Well I am hear to tell you that yes Tan Dinas is that good, and John & Eileen are wonderful hosts. Husband and I stayed for 3 nights before we headed over to Ireland and were truly impressed. This is one of the best B & B's we stayed in during our 27 day tour around UK & Ireland.

The location was great being about a 8-10 minute walk (if you go direct) from Betwys or slightly longer if you choose to you via the "scenic" walk over the miners bridge. Either way the walk is not onerous. Tan Dinas is also only 10 minutes walk from Swallow's Falls.

Our room was at the front of the house with such pretty views of the surrounding area and also the lovely garden. The room was spacious, spotless and tastefully furnished and the bathroom was beautifully presented. This was one of the few B & B's we stayed in that had a fridge in the room, there was even fresh milk, none of that UHT rubbish.

The sitting area just outside our room held a range of local information and Eileen was only too pleased to provide us with insights into what to do and see. We visited Beddgelert at her suggestion and were really pleased that we did, in fact our days were planned around Eileen's suggestions

Breakfast was suberb, the dining room had lovely views and had a nice cosy & homely atmosphere. I am a vegetarian and sometimes that can be problematic, but nothing was too much trouble for Eileen & John.

There was no shortage of car parking and the gardens were lovely. If we are lucky enough to visit North Wales again we would defiinitely stay at Tan Dinas.

Greetings from Australin John & Eileen!!!

Just a tip - head to the Trefwif woollen factory not far from Betws - just fantasic to things still being done the traditional way - they have a great supply of leather gloves at very reasonable prices.

We recently enjoyed three nights at beautiful Tan Dinas, a well-appointed, well-maintained house tucked away from the tourist bustle and yet an easy walk (or quick drive) to town. From the minute we stepped through the front door, Eileen and John made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable and invigorating hiking holiday. We stayed in the Willow Room -- it was wonderfully cozy, clean, and splendidly quiet; we especially liked sitting with cups of hot tea near the window at the end of each day and looking out over the carefully tended garden. Eileen's knowledge of area trails/walks is excellent, and in her sharing of this information it's easy to see that her knowledge is based on personal experience and caring for the natural beauty of Wales. Breakfast was always tasty with plenty of options. The fresh fruit salad was an outstanding treat each morning; in addition John and Eileen cheerfully accommodated my vegan dietary needs. And then there were the many small things that made our stay even better: The wifi internet was stable and quick. The shower water pressure was perfect. John dried our hiking shoes for us after a wet outing. Eileen welcomed us with tea and slices of traditional Welsh bread, as well as helping us make contact with an overseas family member. If we ever have the good fortune to return to the Snowdonia Area, we'll definitely be looking for an opening at Tan Dinas.

As you are aware, the train from London brings our guests here in just over 3 hours and it was nice for you both that you could get here that way and then enjoy Snowdonia using the local transport. We love living in this beautiful area and get to see as much of it as possible and can therefore offer first hand knowledge of what to see and where to go and it was lovely sharing this knowledge with you. Dietary requirements are an important part of life and we were pleased to help you with your vegan diet. We hope we will see you both here again one day. Every best wish.

Probably the best BandB we have stayed in. The Victorian house is tastefully decorated throughout, retaining many of the original features. Bedrooms are comfortable and well-equipped with great views of the Lugwy Valley outside the window! Breakfasts are of the highest quality with good choice. The hosts are knowledgeable, friendly and extremely helpful - I particularly commend the BandB for this. At £75 per room per night (at the time of writing) it represents good value. A great place to stay.

Room Tip: No tip needed - all excellent!!

We have recently returned from yet another very enjoyable stay at Tan Dinas. The Victorian house is set in newly landscaped gardens, and the views are amazing. Having stayed there five times, we feel we now know it very well. We have stayed in a couple of different rooms, all of which have been very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. It is everything you would expect from a first class B&B, and more.
From the moment you arrive, until the day you depart, you can be assured of great hospitality from the owners John & Eileen. There is a really good choice for breakfast, hot and cold, and indeed John's perfectly cooked breakfasts will keep you going all day!
Eileens knowledge of the local area, and further afield, is outstanding. She is always willing to help you plan your day, if so required, with her own hand drawn maps to help you.
I highly recommend Tan Dinas, and if you are still hesitant, just read all the other 5* reviews, we can't all be wrong.!

Many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to write a review about your visits to us which, incidentally, have totalled 29 days over 6 visits in the past 5 years, but whose counting. As you are aware, John and I both enjoy welcoming guests to our home and our intention is always to do our best to help them get the most out of their hard earned holiday, even if it means resorting to drawing yet another of my famous little maps.

Was very disappointed in the room I was given as there were steps up to the door and no landing which made it very hard to open the door and the small fridge in the room made a lot of noise. When I booked I was told that all rooms were the same a - little white lie ! I think. My brother-in-law was happy with his room and his fridge looked more upmarket. i had to travel over 10,000 miles to find out the room was small and noisy from the fridge.
The location was very scenic and pristine; the breakfast was excellent but would not stay here again if they could not guarantee that I would not get the beech room again.

Room Tip: Do not choose the Beech room (although you're not given a choice when booking) as it was very ha...

It has really saddened us to read your review as it would have been so easy to help you to open the door had we known you needed assistance, likewise we certainly would have been happy if you had switched off the fridge and we would have provided you with pre-packed UHT milk. All new environmentally friendly fridges make slightly more noise as they are free from harmful CFC gases. We have no control over the architectural features of our spacious Victorian Country House built in 1854, but it is these period features which make it so very attractive, we are sorry if you do not find this to be the case.

This is the place you have been looking for! With a beautiful location right in Betws y Coed but far from the madding crowds on top of a magnificent hill over looking gorgeous scenery; you will think you have gone to heaven. The beds are so comfortable and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The bathrooms are no less than elegant. The whole house is beautifully appointed and the gardens are lovely with private sitting areas all through the grounds.
The breakfast offers traditional and uniquely creative choices and each item on the menu is well cooked by John and happily served by Eileen. The products are chosen from local vendors who specialize in their trade. They also offer a lovely fruit salad, yogurts and the coffee is good.
All this wonderful stuff said, let me tell you about the hosts, John and Eileen. What lovely folks. From the minute you step in the door you will feel so welcome. They have made this a sanctuary for YOU; thinking of every comfort to make your stay the best. Folks come back year after year to visit Tan Dinas; I certainly do.
The location is perfect for visiting North Wales in all directions. Eileen is very knowledgeable about sites to see in the area and has a library of information available. The price for staying at Tan Dinas is so very reasonable.
If you are thinking about a visit don’t wait too late. They are very popular and they fill up fast.

Our fourth visit the see Eileen & John that in its self should say it all and it will not be our last. We usually stay for three nights and now bring our friends to share the experience who are now also firm "Tan Dinas" fans.Situated a short walk away from the busy town this gem of a country house is everything you would want in a relaxing break. Rooms are fitted out to a very high standard of comfort and cleanliness and John`s breakfast are superb. Eileen and John make the perfect hosts and will do everything possible to make our stays with memorable with suggested walks, places to visit and dinning out. Eileen has a wealth of knowledge of the area and history and makes you feel like special guests. If you are looking for a golden nugget in B-y-C do not look any further than Tin Dinas.
