“The Best Place to eat in Betws-y-Coed”
Reviewed 14 July 2008

Anyone visiting Betws-y-Coed must eat here. It is by far and away the best food in town. The food is all sourced locally and is therefore always fresh. We both had steak and it was cooked to perfection. There is plenty to choose from on the menu and a very good specials board. We had two main courses, two sweets, a bottle of wine and a pint of beer for £62.00, which was very reasonable. You get little crudities before hand and it also seems that the staff are knowledgeable about the food they serve.
One tip though - you must book, especially at weekends!

“The most *incredible* restaurant I have ever accidentally found!”
Reviewed 5 July 2008

While staying in Betwys Y Coed in August 2007, my boyfriend and I had forgotten to make reservations anywhere for dinner - this was a mistake, as it was Bank Hol weekend and the place was packed with Snowdon tourists!

We wandered around the village, wondering whether to get fish and chips or something, when we saw the Betws Y Coed Bistro and decided to try our luck getting a table for two.

We were VERY lucky - as it was just two of us, although it was about 9pm, they managed to squeeze us in when someone else left!

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food was absolutely incredible, and yet the restaurant is very unassuming - looks a bit like a gastro-pub in decor. The most shocking thing about our meals was the price - we actually felt embarassed to pay so little (well under what you would pay in a rubbish English pub), and they were so kind to let us in when the chef wanted to go home, and we ended up tipping them about 30%!

We had lamb. Well you have to in Wales, don't you? It was just *divine*. My mouth waters even thinking about it now! Rich sauces, superb quality meat, perfect side-vegetables, and portions so huge that we only barely finished it! The main courses were about £10 each, and we also had wine that was very very decently priced for an excellent bottle.

It was so good that we tried our luck the next night as well - incredibly we got in again, at about 9pm! (I wouldn't recommend doing this regularly though, it is probably very annoying!). This time we had starters as well, pigeon breast salad (followed by lamb again). We expected a few slivers of pigeon on a warm salad, what we got were two whole breasts each on salad, rich and dripping in a plum jus, incredible for less than £5!

It was also refreshing to see that they changed their menu daily - or at least it appeared so - while lamb was on every night, it was a different meal & different cuts.

In conclusion, this resturant serves very good food, huge portions from excellent quality ingredients, and priced so competitively that it beggars belief. The staff are friendly and polite, the service is quick, it is well worth going out of your way for.
