“Disappointed”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights over the August
Bank holiday weekend. The cost was £290 for 2 nights.
We were given outside accommodation room 42. I can
Only describe next door to room 42 as a boiler room.
The noise kept us awake both nights. It was awful and we
We're left exhausted. The room was clean on arrival it smelt a
Little musty. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice
And freshly cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you do ever
Stay at this hotel, please do not stay in room 42. We were left exhausted
From no sleep and very disheartened. I would have expected a little more
Luxury feel to our room for the money we paid, as everything was very basic. Would I stay
At this hotel again. No I would not, we left very disappointed.

Room Tip: If you stay at this hotel please refuse room 42.

This was my first stay in Snowdonia for 30 years... and unlike the last time I was there it wasn't raining, the sun shone for the week. I chose the Waterloo for two reasons, firstly its location and secondly its previous reviews. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Betws-y-Coed, a bit of a tourist trap in the summer but a central location to go walking and sight seeing from.
The hotel itself in unassuming when you pul up outside, but inside the reception and bars it is modern and fresh. The rooms I had (147) was in the courtyard outside and above the other rooms which was quiet although it does back onto the train track (1 an hour). The Family room was comfortable, modern and clean. It had a lounge and separate bedroom. Watch out for the sink taps....the water power is strong and its easy to get covered in water if you turn them on full..!! The restaurant food was.. plentiful and of good quality, the staff were always pleasant and polite. The leisure facilities were of good quality and the spa and sauna were welcome after a days walking!!!
Will I stay again, ....yes

Room Tip: Get a family room in the courtyard.

The rooms were adequate but nothing special. En suite bathrooms and 'freeview' TV, which only had 2 or 3 channels that wasn't welsh news or radio channels. There was free wifi throughout the hotel, much to my delight. The entrance to our room was from outside which was nice. The back windows open up onto a small field which is a lovely view but is also about 15 feet away from the train line, luckily the trains only come past every 3 hours and stop before it's dark.

The breakfast pretty much made the hotel, as sad as it sounds the breakfast was really good, we both filled out boots and needn't have lunch because it was so filling and a lot of choice: cereal, croissants, fruit, toast, jam, marmalade & full cooked breakfasts in a buffet style layout
But we weren't there for the breakfasts and freeview, we were there for it's location, and it is a fantastic location, and the janitor gave us good directions to all the fantastic walks we went on. Very enjoyable location.

The pool was always full of kids and the changing rooms weren't changing rooms, just a bench with a curtain around 1/10th of it and some lockers outside. The jacuzzi also always had people in it and we didn't use the gym or steam room.

Strongly recommend visiting the fairy glen.

Be aware there is only one fast food takeaway in the town, we walked for hours in all directions and can confirm there is only one, not a problem if you can drive to the nearby towns but makes it very difficult for walkers. There were no self catering facilities except a kettle. We even telephoned a few places to see if they would deliver to us, to no avail. The takeaway is fish and chips and costs £9-11 for a basic fish dinner, though tasty, not what we had in mind. They also charge extra for bags, sauces and forks.

We got this deal via groupon, about seventy five percent off the original price but still paid a good amount for a three night stay, I was quite shocked at what their normal price is for the three nights, which is why I was expecting a little better. I would go back to Betws-y-coed but I would not pay full price for this hotel.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay in a superior double lodge, very spacious with a lovely big bed, nice decor and furnishing, with a nice area to sit outside. The hotel has been modernised since I last stayed and is bright and modern. Breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. The location is ideal for touring the area, and a short walk to the village centre.
We received a warm welcome on arrival and all the staff are friendly, helpfull and interested in their guests. Big thanks to all, we had a great stay.

We were originally booked into a disabled room in a hotel in Caernarvon. Although I had told them three times that it had to be fully accessible to accommodate my husband and wheelchair they had given away their only suitable room !!!! We had travelled three hours to get there so we were not amused!!!!! Luckily one member of staff was very good and found us the Waterloo in Betws y Coed. The first room we were shown was fully furnished to accommodate us but as we spend a lot of time in the room it was a little on the dark side. No trouble to these lovely people. Instantly given the key to room 56 tucked away in a corner for complete privacy. Megan the waitress was a lovely lady and all the staff are a credit to the hotel. Always smiling, nothing was too much trouble. My husband never makes it down to breakfast so they offered to take his food up with no service charges whatsoever. I would personally like to thank the manageress for her help on our second evening. I was most grateful. The only slight disadvantage was the access to the restaurant from our room was via steps, but we overcame that by driving around for our meals. We will definitely be going back and would recommend this lovely hotel to anybody wanting to visit this beautiful part of Wales.

Room Tip: The disabled room 56 was superb.

Had a lovely weekend at this hotel. ALL the Staff make you feel so welcome. What a change to so many places who forget their customers are important to them. Spa and gym came in useful, food was very good, rooms were clean. Very good attention to detail, will definitely stay here again when the chance arises.

Room Tip: Road to front so advise rooms at back. They also have chalet/bungalows behind hotel which look good.

Room was spacious, clean and well furnished. I particularly liked having a private garden area at the back where I could have my morning coffee and 10 mins to myself!!! Breakfast was OK. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly (in particularly the barman/night porter who greeted us on our very late arrival on the first night - he pours a jolly good pint and is extremely friendly and welcoming). Food in the restaurant was satisfactory, but we are a little fussy and like something a bit special - still for the price it was very reasonable. Public areas were clean and well maintained. Stepson LOVED the pool. We actually would have stayed extra nights, but they could not accommodate us. We would go back there if our first choice of hotel in that area was not available.
