Much extended and re-furbished since our last visit. New bar and dining area are most agreeable. The food in the restaurant is very much above average: all cooked freshly to order; food locally sourced from Llanwrst and the area. Most excellent fresh trout. boned and cooked to perfection.
Our extended family all relished the meal. Quick and courteous service. Last time, we staying in the main hotel overlooking the main road which was noisy. This time, we booked one of the spacious chalets behind the hotel - v, quiet. Comfortable settee beneath a good ceiling light, so that we would read: this is quite a rarity in hotels.Very comfortable bed and spotless bathroom. Agreeable well-designed swimming pool for exercise. Ample parking by the chalet. Whole hotel suitable for all ages, especially for families in the summer. One sensed a really well managed establishment: an old coaching inn still of character, but updated for modern needs. V. close to village, shops, and walks: flat or hilly. Hotel faces a large green.

Room Tip: Book a chalet behind the hotel, away from main road noise.

We stayed here in October for a short break, hoping for some good weather so we could reach some of the peaks. The hotel was perfect for us. We had a good deal which included breakfast so we were able to fill up before we went walking. (Really enjoyed the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs).

The hotel must have undergone refurbishment recently as it looked very clean and smart. Our room was a motel type room which meant we could park the car right outside and select and pack our gear for walking without tramping up and down stairs etc. The room was clean and bright and again must have been recently refurbished. Coffee, Tea and hot Chocolate and biscuits in the room. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. The bed (twins - no double available when we went) was a duvet rather than sheets, something we much prefer.

There was a train line directly behind the hotel and we thought it might be noisy but the trains just seemed to glide past and never caused a problem.

The great thing we found after a days walk was to come back and swim about the (decent sized) pool to take the stiffness out of our legs then spend 15 minutes in the (small) sauna, then sit in the Jacuzzi for a while.

We ate in the restaurant just once and the food was fine. Most of the hotels in Betwys seemed to stop serving food at 20.00 but at least the Waterloo served food until 21.15

All in all we had a great stay here and would certainly recommend the hotel

Room Tip: Go for a motel type room - you car is right outside!

We stayed here during our first stay in Wales. I have to say we were a bit dubious before we arrived but friendly staff, clean rooms and a fantastic breakfast completely put any concerns to bed!
Its in a wonderful scenic part of the world that is the equal to some of our favorite lake district haunts and an excellent base to enjoy the plentiful walks that surround the hotel.
The real selling point are the staff here who made us feel very welcome and very sad to leave. we will be coming back!

I stayed here on a two night break with my husband booked through a discount site. From the moment we arrived to when we left we had no complaints about anything. The hotel staff are all very friendly and the recently refurbished dining room is a pleasure to eat in. We stayed in a motel type room at the rear of the hotel which was fine, the decor colours not my taste a little bit dark, and the railway line runs along the back of the rooms, my husband was delighted about this as he is a train buff. There is a good choice at breakfast either cooked or continental, we had dinner at the hotel both nights as the food was excellent, very tasty together with a bottle of wine at a decent price. Great place to stay for a short break.

Stayed here for one night whilst walking in the area and chose the hotel based on other reviews here and the photos on their website. Let me just say the the room I stayed in didn't look anything like the pictures.

Paid £93 for a deluxe room and was placed in one of the 'lodge' style rooms around the back. The lady on check-in was busy working away on her computer and totally ignore my entrance. I interrupted her by saying 'hello'.

The room itself was extremely worn, tired, dated and dirty. The bed looked like it had been made by a ten-year-old. The cistern leaked meaning I could hear it filling up all night.

Add to that the railway line that runs metres away from the rear - the first train came past at 6am on the dot.

No outdoor lighting meant getting to and from the car park at night was extremely difficult. Wifi didn't work at all. When I rang reception the lady said she knew but there was nothing she could do about it.

An utter dump. Avoid.

Myself and a friend stayed here as a base for walking in the area and climbing Snowdon. It was easy to find, our room was detached from the main hotel in a 'motel style' drive up which made it great for unloading the car. Only a short walk into the main hotel and the leisure complex.
Breakfast was generous and just what we needed for the walking holiday!
Nice bar and restaurant too that we used in the evening.
