“Great Hotel, Lovely Location... Staff need to be taught manners”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Had a fantastic few days in the beautiful Betws-Y-Coed. The hotel is great and the location is brilliant if you want somewhere quiet but not to far away from things to do. We had a fee drinks in the bar which was lovely and also tried the food in the restaurant which was also very nice but a little pricey, but nether the less the food was good.
Breakfast was a buffer style which is what we enjoy because we could just help ourselves to what we wanted.
Staff very friendly and always on hand to help if we needed it. Waitresses also very chatty and friendly. We didn't find anything wrong with this place, until it was time for us to leave.
As we entered the reception to check out we could see the housekeepers working in the bar area. As we finished checking out and after having a lovely chat with the receptionist we left to be greeted by a member housekeeping staff, who smilied, only seconds later a tall dark haired male housekeeper came over to the female housekeeper swearing like a trooper. "I'm f***ing bored" he said, to which the female housekeeper replied "don't swear in front of customers" and his reply was "don't give a s**t" then he walked off. We found this kind of language appalling and disgusting, and the fact the he didn't seem to care about the customers who pay his wages every month is very horrible. We could see that the female housekeeper was uncomfortable and a little embarrassed about the way he spoke but just carried on working.

Our time at the hotel was great, just a shame that man had no respect for us.

A pleasant three-star hotel that provides a good base for exploring Snowdonia.

The arrangement of many of the rooms in a motel-like configuration has both advantages and disadvantages; it is very convenient to be able to park outside the door to your room but you may need an umbrella (provided by the hotel) to reach the bar of restaurant. Visitors to the area should be aware that Wales does not enjoy a Mediterranean climate.

Our 'deluxe' room was adequately spacious with a settee in the sitting area. Indicative of lowering standards no toiletries are supplied; instead a couple of soap dispensers are nailed to the bathroom walls. The bed was too hard.

The restaurant produces pleasant food. We learnt from a staff member that they had served a record number of dinners one night of our stay without any apparent stress, although on another less demanding evening service was slow and erratic. Breakfasts are a buffet. Dishwashing is unsatisfactory as we were repeatedly confronted by soiled crockery.

Nice hotel, friendly staff. Breakfast was very good, but the evening meal was slightly average considering the price and time it took to serve, but still quite decent. Would probably eat somewhere in the town next time, it was just more convenient than anything. Pool was clean, sauna and steam room small but did the job! *TOP TIP* Cheaper to book direct through the hotel itself rather than comparison sites!

Great location and a huge car park. Booking in and out was a doddle and the staff were fine. Our room was nice. Clean and modern with a firm but comfy bed and lovely comfy pillows. We were at the front in the main building overlooking the main road. It does get noisy with the windows open but this is a quiet road at night so no problem sleeping. At one point there was a weird noise that sounded like a drill next door. The staff attended quickly and promised to sort it. It soon stopped by itself and was fine thereafter. Our room was above the dining area so was a bit noisy with people shreaking with laughter later on. Also (although I slept through it) my wife tells me that the usual obligatory selfish idiots were in the corridor at 0200 am insisting on chatting loudly and saying goodnight numerous times before they could go into their rooms. All in all though the rooms were quiet. They do have the odd strange rule. No red wine or takeaways in the room for example. The facilities here are good and in the morning I had the pool and the jacuzzi to myself. I should imagine it gets busy later on though as they do offer memberships to non residents and as the main customers seemed to be walkers, I can imagine them being partial to a dip upon return from a hard days walking in the mountains.
The breakfast was great. All you can eat help yourself buffet, cereals, cooked and pastries etc.
The only bad bit about this hotel was the price. £145 for one night is very expensive for this type of hotel in this area.

We stopped in one of the lodges for one night and were able to take our collie for a small extra charge (£7). The room was a good size, clean and had tea and coffee making facilities, hair drier and television. The hotel receptionist was very knowledgeable of the area and local walks and attractions. We used the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, again all clean. The pool was slightly on the cold side though, nothing too bad. Finally the breakfast was included and was very good, a lot of choice, all seemed fresh too.
The only thing we could say was that the hotel may need a lick of paint to tidy it up. Very good value, will be going back again at some point.
