Lovely don't expect large it is what it is a pretty coaching inn, quaint and full of charm. Staff helpful and friendly. Food very good with plenty of choice for vegetarians. Very amazed by the fish dishes served to other guests. Really good value and clean we will definitely return.

Room Tip: We had room 6 small and cosy I loved it but bathroom tiny, this didn't bother us but if you don...

Our whole family came all 16 of us, 8 children, 8 adults for 2 nights eating both nights. All as noisy as you can imagine! I expected the service to get tired of us all asking demanding things for rooms, during the meals, and filling the reception area so that the staff couldn't get to the tables. But no... the service and staff here were simply amazing, they made all of us feel that they liked us all! The food was brilliant, as were the rooms, and I got to see 5 of them. All beautifully decorated and finished most with 4 poster beds. We were late of Snowden the second night and had pre-ordered our meals and still the Chef was charming and the food delicious even though it had been waiting for our arrival. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.

Room Tip: If its a hot summer night (it was very hot when we were there), go for a back room off the road. But...

A family of four golfers stayed here for just one night. The rooms are all individual and are very clean and tidy. It was hot all night and there was some noise from the main road but what do you expect when you are right by it with the window open?
The food here is absolutely wonderful. The dishes are all beautifully presented, the quality superb and you will not leave hungry.
Finally all the staff were very helpful and we all really enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Room Tip: If you want to be sort of away from the road then ask for a room at the back

If you want pre cooked, reliable, safe food and a room with aircon, 42 inch TV and 24 hour room service then this Hotel is not for you. If you want fresh, locally produced and excellently cooked food, in a warm, friendly and traditional 16th century setting just on the edge of Betwys then this is your dream place. I don't have enough characters to explain how much I enjoyed my stay but I can say that the food I had (Scallops with prawns and crayfish followed by a succulent sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce) was to die for. Having said that! the Lamb shoulder, that was clearly popular, did spark off some food envy on my part and I will definitely be ordering that next time I stay . The overall eating experience was enhanced by the professionalism, selfless commitment and 'can do' attitude of the staff who were always more than happy to help. The rooms are more than adequate, clean and cosy and the beds are comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering the hotel is located on the main road. I will be staying again and when I move to Llanwrst I will certainly be a frequent diner and will definitely recommend the Ty Gwyn to anyone. My only observation is that there is a lovely patio area out the back that I feel could be made more accessible as it is a great place to sit overlooking the valley and mountains. Thank you Martin and the crew!

Room Tip: I stayed in room 7, very comfortable and easy access to the patio area at the back of the hotel.

We didn't stay at Ty Gwyn so I can't comment on the accomodation, but we chose to eat here one Saturday evening as it has a good reputation for food. The table was booked a week in advance and the woman who took the booking gave the impression that we had the very last table but, in fact, it was not full on the night. They have very limited parking, with an overflow car park 50 metres away. Use that, rather than park on the road.

One odd feature of the menu is that they offer you chips OR vegetables OR salad. We had excellent starters of fillet of lamb in asparagus and brie parcels and a good wine at £16 a bottle, but then the meal went downhill.

I chose their mixed seafood gratin, which was pleasent, but it was served with an odd little ramekin of dark gunge topped with parsnip crisps. This turned out to be overcooked red cabbage so overspiced with cloves as to be inedible. For numbing toothache it might have been good but it was a pointless addition to a seafood dish.

My partner chose the breast of goose. This was served very rare, which is not a problem in itself provided the butcher has hung the meat correctly. Their supplier had not and it was unpleasently tough. It would have benefited from a little longer cooking. Her "vegetables" were a selection of soggy tasteless baby carrots, green beans, and cubes of unidentifiable root veg. They had been boiled and tasted as if they had been kept hot in water for many hours. Inedible.

We chose not to try their desserts.

On mentioning our disapointment to the waitress, fullsome appologies were forthcoming from the chef, an offer of financial reconpense was not. We will not eat at Ty Gwyn again.

First of all Ty Gwyn is not in the village of Betws y Coed . Its about 10-15 mins walk away .the place has got plenty characture but if they offer you room 12 dont accept it . Its on the ground floor however you have to walk through the pub where people are eating and its very noisy when the pub is full . The room is surrounded by the pub, sitting room and just behind the room are the ladies toilet. Problems in the room. Lack of working bulbs , wall light obsqures part of the TV , the electric towel heater was coming away from the wall and the cable was passed throught he wall from the bathroom into the bedroom and plugged in . The sink taps are loose ( you have to hold them to use them ). And having a shower was like wrestling a snake. The 'wardrobe ' had a leak from the above flat which covered water on the shelf and dripped onto the carpet . I did report this and the manageress put towels on the shelf to catch the water . ( apparently this leak had been fixed before . Time to change the plumber me thinks ) just one last gripe . The staff wer'nt forthcoming with 'good morning ' which i feel would have been nice. The breakfast was lovely though with a good choice of cereal and cooked food. In general the hotel was very homely ( plenty of locals in at night ) but dont ask the owner about any pictures or orniments because he hasnt a clue ( he inherited them from his mother ) . Would i go back to this hotel ? Probably not

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay. I am sorry that we were unable to give you more information regarding the painting. Ty Gwyn is full of antiques and bric a brac collected by members of the family over the years and remembering the history behind every items can be quite challenging. The leak in the cupboard has been fixed and maintenance work has been started. I am sorry about the noise issue but do hope to welcome you again soon.

Ty Gwyn is a gorgeous 16th century coaching inn that has retained all it's quirky character and charm. The bar area and lounge in particular are lovely. The manager and staff were all very friendly and could not do enough to help us enjoy our stay. Excellent breakfast cooked fresh with locally sourced produce.
