“Excellent hotel in great location with superb food menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Four of us stayed over last weekend and had a wonderful time at this hotel. We had the 4 course dinner which was brilliant. Fine dining restaurant with a cracking fireplace and excellent service from all the staff.

The only downside was that as the hotel is in an older building noise can travel from upper floors but nothing major to worry about.

Parking is free also which is a bonus and hotel is near cafes, shops and the river across the road.

Highliy recommend this. Go for the 4 course dinner - worth every penny!

Stayed at this hotel for one night. Ideally situated for trips and walks in Snowdonia National Park.
Car park free which is a bonus. Staff friendly and very helpful. Rooms very pleasant. The dinner in the restaurant was one of the best I have had for a long time and I eat out often. The set menu was exceptionally good value and worth every penny. Three courses for £25. The food was well presented, delicious and just the right sized portions.A very good wine list as well. Staff attentive but not intrusive. I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and the delicious food. I hope to visit again.Compliments to the chef and all the staff.

My wife & I stayed at the Royal Oak for two nights in September. The hotel was lovely, staff friendly & food superb. Its a perfect location if you have plans on visiting snowdonia. Betws-y-Coed is a very small village with a handful of shops. Our stay was very enjoyable & we hope to return very soon.

We stopped here for a light lunch and opted for a sandwich from the menu. It was served with a side salad and was delicious. Had we wanted a larger lunch we would have enjoyed choosing from the vast list of game dishes on the special lunch menu yummy!
We ate in the conservatory which was a sunny warm room, out of the Welsh weather! Staff were friendly and attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our food or the bill, although didn't feel rushed at all.
Very well priced for what was on offer, highly recommended.

we went on a special deal for 2 nights, on arrival we were able to park at the front of the hotel with no charge just had to get a sticker for in the car, the room we had we were in room 211 and was a lovely room big enough, the only thing that we had a slight problem was the plumbing every time you flushed the loo there a few minutes noise so we couldn't flush at night so as not to wake each other up or the other guests. We did report this to reception. The hotel was warm and very friendly and all the staff were very pleasant to talk to, check in was simple and quick. we had a meal on the first night included, we had a problem with one of the meals but was dealt with no hassle and very quickly and they came to apologise and we had another meal cooked for us, which was really nice, the food was piping hot so were the plates, in fact I've never had meals so hot which is a fab.
the breakfast was lovely again nice and hot and plenty of choice I had the ham and eggs on the 2nd day and was exceptional, we also had a welsh tea and really enjoyed that in the late afternoon, but could have done with one between us but Hey we were on holiday.
Would def recommend this hotel and is so central, plenty to do around the area and lovely walks
lots of nice shops to wander in and coffee shops. Really impressed and will go again to the area, the weather was good for us too

Room Tip: try and get on the front, maybe not 211 plumbing noisy hopefully will get sorted now though

We stayed for a couple of nights which we booked on a special deal & were really impressed with it. It's in a beautiful location, we had a room at the front of the hotel which had lovely views, the only problem was I am quite sure that it is a listed building so it didn't have double glazing so there was a lot of road noise especially as there was a loose drain cover or something just outside the window, but you can't blame the hotel for that .It was a good sized comfortable room with plenty of storage space & also plenty of sockets so you could charge your phone & your toothbrush & your camera batteries all at the same time which was a nice change from most hotel rooms.
The food both breakfast & evening meal was out of this world with obviously locally sourced fresh ingredients & plenty of choice. The drinks at the bar were reasonable prices too which again makes a change from most hotels.
All the staff were helpful & friendly.
Would recommend this hotel to anybody that is staying in the area & will stay again if we are in the area

We visited Betws-y-Coed one morning last week and decided to have a light lunch in the Bar/Grill of the Royal Oak Hotel. Sue had poached salmon and I had the Welsh Rarebit (Well, when in Wales etc....). Such a nice experience in fact that, after touring around the North Wales coastal resorts all afternoon, we decided to head back to the Royal Oak for an early dinner. We were not disappointed! Smoked haddock on a bed of chorizo risotto for me, a slow roast pork belly with seasonal veg for Sue, and followed by an apple cheesecake to share, will stay with us as one of the more memorable meals we have taken together, and we would thoroughly recommend it. Next time we might even stay in the hotel, so that no-one has to take charge of the car keys!! (Short straw again!)
