“Lunch”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

Called here today for a 3 course lunch for £14.95. The food was lovely and a good choice of menu. We were let down by a waitress who didn't want to be there...not friendly at all, although we tried to make conversation. She had plenty to say with the other waitresses by the bar though. It was not a very good sign to see the chef (?) come out of the kitchen to talk to them and his clothes were filthy..I quite understand that this would happen but his white top hadn't been white for a very long time. What a shame it spoilt the look of a lovely hotel.

We stayed at the Royal Oak for the new year but in the accomodation called the Stables which is an extension to the hotel.. The Stables has its own reception and large car park. We had to check in at the main hotel receiption and the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful.. There is a lift in the Stables as all of the rooms are on the first floor. Our bedroom was at the front so we had views of the village green and all the surroundings which was very nice. The bedroom and the bathroom was very nicely decorated,.of a decent size and spotless. We went into the Stable bar for new years eve and had a meal which was very nice and enjoyed the disco/karoke. Breakfast was seved in the Grill in the main hotel which we enjoyed.and the staff were very pleasent and helpful. This Hotel is situated in the centre of Betws-y-coed and i would highley recommend it, we would definatley return, we had the most enjoyable time.

We stayed recently for two nights to celebrate New Year. We had a really nice comfy room, with a view to the front of the hotel. (We could see the river). It was a warm welcome, and we were particularly impressed by the beautiful decoration of the didning room for the New Year dinner and party. The whole atmosphere was stylish and intimate, and the entertainment was very enjoyable. The food was beautifully presented, but our only criticism was, if you don't like "game" or "pork", there was little on the menu to please.......? Maybe a "choice" would be better ? However, dessert was wonderful, and filled any empty corners ! I have to say that the staff are the jewel in this hotel's crown. Totally helpful......very friendly and cheerful, and totally responsible for the success of the occassion. Breakfast was plentiful, although served to me "luke warm" on the first morning. Back up to scratch the following day though, so, no major criticism, and would love to stay again.

Room Tip: Room 3 is comfy, well equipped, and has a lovely view of the river.

I stayed here with several friends an we were all really pleased with the hotel. It was spotlessly clean and very cosy and comfortable. The bedrooms were big and the beds really comfy and bathroom was spotless. Not sure why others complained about the beds or the Church bells!! None of us heard a thing.
The dinner was spot on and so was the breakfast. Betws is a lovely village and the hotel has an excellent jazz band there on a Thursday evening.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
As others have said, a really good deal for DB&B. A most enjoyable stay, and we will all be going back there.

Taking advantage of a short break offer we were pleasantly surprised what a good break this was for my friends and I. Rooms were spacious with a large functional bathroom. Room temperature was perhaps a little high.
Food in the restaurant was excellent and well presented. Drink prices were reasonable, but the bar lacked atmosphere later on in the evening.
The cooked breakfast was fresh and tasty. However the other aspects of the buffet was limited.
Staff were local;very helpful, friendly and reflected the family feel to the hotel.
Local activities were varied and the variety of walks mean we will consider going again.
