It was my first time booking for a large group of people and every step of the way I found The Royal Oak to be very helpful. We were 12 group of ladies with a mission to climb up Mount Snowdon and we stayed at The Royal Oak in Betws-y-Coed as our base. On booking, the hotel were very accomodating arranging rooms, close to eachother, in The Lodge which is located at the back of the hotel. Rooms were charged at £80 per room per night. We arrived at 1:30pm and alongside our key we were given a free car park voucher. To achieve the best rate for breakfast I booked it advance. The hotel receptionist, on finding out we were climbing Mount Snowdon, arranged for breakfast to be served at 7am and advised us to leave before 8am before the area around Mount Snowdon became busy. From the hotel Llanberis is a 25 minute drive from Mount Snowdon and with the advice from the receptionist we were able to start our trek, with ease, at 8:45am.

In the room there was a TV, speakers for your Ipod, hair dryer, tea/coffee making facilities, fresh towels, firm mattresses on the bed, shampoo and body wash in the shower and it was toasty warm. They do have a rule of no take aways nor red wine in the lodge, which is fair enough. The room was immaculate and spacious.

Overall our visit was very pleasant and the staff very friendly. I would stay again and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the area.

We stayed in a superior room, having been told that the Deluxe rooms could be noisy as they over look the road. Booking and reception were very good, friendly and gave good advice. The room itself was clean, comfortable but lacking any style and the bathroom basic. The location is superb, both for Snowdonia itself and also Betws y Coed. Our package included an allowance for the main (Llugwy) restaurant, and the meals were excellent value for money. The main disappointment was the vegetables which were uninspiring and undercooked. Reasonable wine list, especially new world at a sensible price. Breakfast, also included, was poor. I had kippers one day which and was assured when I complained were freshly cooked. If so, they were badly cooked or poor quality kippers, being tough and lukewarm. No apology forthcoming. Most of the staff were polite and good, but we had three very poor interactions. We would not stay in the hotel again, but may eat there if we stay somewhere else in Betws y Coed another time.

We (again) stayed overnight at the Royal Oak in April 2014. This time we ate in the restaurant. The service was exceptional. Our waitress was very young but took very good care of us. I had the belly pork, which I've had before (in the Grill) and it was as excellent as ever. My husband had the lamb cooked three ways, which was also very good. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed and a harpist was playing. She was excellent, playing a selection of well known tunes. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it provided a wonderful background ambience. We had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable room. Breakfast was not quite as good as on previous occasions. It had possibly been "standing" for a while and dried out a little. However this is an excellent hotel which we are sure to re-visit for both overnight stays and, when just passing through, for their wonderful cream teas.

Chose the Grill at the Royal Oak for lunch during a visit to Betsw-y-coed, how lucky we were! We found a comfy sofa at the back of the restaurant. Service was efficient and friendly. We had the fish cakes and scallops to start. The cauliflower purée with the scallops was really tasty. Then I had the welsh lamb rump, and husband had pork belly. Pork belly was meltingly tender, lamb was cooked to perfection. Vegetables were just right, red cabbage gorgeous. Only criticism is that the vegetable selection shouldn't include ratatouille with "gravy" dishes - that doesn't really work for me. We were already full - but we're tempted by the dessert menu. Dessert was outstanding - very "cheffy" and we were full as eggs on leaving. 4 drinks, 3 courses, 2 espresso coffes for just under £70. Will head straight for the Royal Oak on our next visit :-)

Stayed in the Stables Lodge at the Royal Oak, Sat & Sun night. Room was clean, warm and comfortable, although a king size bed would have been nice. Dined at the Stables Bar on Sat night, food very good. On Sunday night we dined elsewhere and retired to bed fairly early as we had done a lovely 10 mile walk/climb. Unfortunately, the noise from the Stables Bar got louder and louder as the evening progressed. There were obviously other guests using the bar who were in and out slamming doors until at least 1 o'clock in the morning. Resorted to ear plugs in the end. Not the hotels fault, I know, but when we tried to contact the main hotel about the noise there was no answer! There are no phones in the rooms with direct contact to Reception or a night porter, we used our mobile, but to no avail. Would probably stay there again but would avoid bank holidays. Perhaps the hotel could put up signs reminding guests to be quiet or something.

Room Tip: A room at the back is advisable (although this doesnt guarantee a good nights sleep with thoughtless...

Called in for lunch at the Royal Oak Hotel when travelling through the village of Betws-y-Coed. Welcomed by a very pleasant waitress who brought the menus then gave us just enough time before returning to take our drinks and food order. The drinks arrived very quickly and as presumably the food is prepared to order there was a wait for this - but not too long. It was well worth waiting for and was very nicely presented. Good food and value for money - worth calling in for lunch if travelling in this area.

We had a great evening meal. We ate off the grill menu as we didn't fancy the very formal restaurant. The grill was full so they opened an extra room and I think we scored! This room had a great atmosphere, relaxing with a great ambience which was quiet but not too much that we couldn't talk. We both had the lamp rump which was delicious and great value for money. Followed by the chocolate terrine, delish! Topped off with good service we had a great night.
