“Great location- beautiful setting”
Reviewed 13 May 2013

I was looking for somewhere special to stay for the weekend as I was invited to my nephews wedding (which was taking place on a campsite). This hotel surpassed expectations and reviews really can't do it justice. The staff were exception in their willingness to make the stay there pleasant. The décor was a unique, well imagined, mix of traditional and modern. I had a basic room, as did my daughters, all three rooms were very different (one had a four poster bed), of good size with beautiful en suites - mine had a bath and separate shower. We ate in the Bistro - very good service and food. The main dining room where breakfast is served has exceptional views of the river. Full Welsh breakfast is cooked to order and sourced locally - a feast to start the day. All staff from room service through food and beverage to reception had smiles and a willingness to help

Room Tip: Just take what comes - we had three basic rooms and all were very good

We stayed for 3 nights here on our first visit to Wales. Our initial reason for booking was both the location and that they were happy to allow dogs to stay. We have been thoroughly surprised and delighted with our stay. The food was amazing, the staff could not have been more helpful, the afternoon tea scrummy and the hotel on top of all this was indeed very dog friendly!

This is a really hard review to write. There was nothing massively wrong with this place and I echo what many reviewers have said. The views were phenomenal, the staff friendly and the evening meal delicious. However it was somehow lacking in atmosphere. I don't think this was just because there were hardly any guests or we were the only ones eating in the restaurant because we have experienced that in other hotels of this calibre and if treated well it shouldn't make you feel conspicuous. I think it is more that the place felt somehow unloved and just like a business rather than providing the extra attention to detail and personal touches that make you feel so special and pampered,as you would want when paying this much.

To name a few small issues that mounted up; No continuity of staff or maitre'd as I would expect for this level of hotel, but a different one every time. Waitress (who was very friendly) tidying away and putting breakfast things out when we hadn't finished our evening meal,so much so we took the rest of our wine back to our room rather than sit there. Sitting by the river soaking in the breathtaking views we were unable to buy a glass of bubbly each to enjoy, they don't sell even cava by the glass. Room was bright and spotless but somehow bit jaded and again just felt like nobody really took a special interest. If wed been paying a lot less these would not have been such important issues but it all felt a bit sloppy and unfocused. Their prices should surely be reflected in their attention to detail.

I don't know who the owners are but it felt very apparent it was a business being managed rather than owners who really cared about making the guests experience special.

So overall, stunning location and views, nothing to complain seriously about but just felt it was lacking in a number of ways. We have stayed in a few very special country houses in similar price bracket and they have surpassed this. If it was half the pice we'd go again,at this price we won't.

We came across this hotel at the end of a long and tiring walk - desperate for a cup of tea the staff could not have been more helpful. The Chef was asked if he would mind making us a plate of sandwiches and a pot of tea - what emerged was amazing. Home-made freshly baked Welsh cakes with a variety of freshly prepared delicious sandwiches and yummy scones.... we were in heaven. It was one of the highlights of our visit to Betwsy-y-coed. The young man who looked after us SO well came from Sussex !! The views were brilliant as well. Enjoy. :)

Took a post-Easter break with the family and stayed 3 nights here. The hotel is just exceptional in every regard. The friendliness of every member of staff, the quality of the food and the location just make it a perfect choice for a walking holiday in north Wales.

We stayed in the family suite which fitted us perfectly, looks out over the river. Not exceptionally luxurious but well in keeping with the price range.

The staff gave us directions on how to walk to Fairy Glen via the hotel grounds and then the farm, which was a gentle warm up but very uplifting. Lovely memories and hope to return again.

This is the seventh visit in just over two years and it's the sort of hotel that, once discovered, you just want to keep coming back. The location is fantastic, accommodation excellent, food can't be faulted and the staff and service should be awarded six stars out of five. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible even given the exceptional weather conditions - heavy snow and ice at the end of March. Paths and car park were cleared and gritted by breakfast time, there was a roaring log fire in the lounge every evening when we got in after a few hours following snow ploughs round Snowdonia. Our usual ground floor room was lovely and warm and spotlessly clean as always. Breakfast is always freshly cooked and dinner offers a wide choice of dishes. All beautifully prepared and served with ample portions. We are already looking in our diary to find a couple more weeks that we can come and stay this years - hopefully when the snow has gone, but it was very scenic with the valley under a blanket of the white stuff.. Well done everyone.

Room Tip: River view room is worth the extra and the ground floor room is great if you have mobility problems.

My husband and I fell in love with this hotel. The location, the food, the helpful staff the room, everything about it was just perfect. We stayed here for four nights and nothing was to much trouble for anyone. We ate at the hotel everynight and had a different meal everynight. Every dish was beautiful and very tasty indeed. The restaurant has such a pretty view of the river and never got tired of looking at it. We have booked to come back for a week in June and we can't wait. One of the best hotels we have stayed in...ever.thankyou to everyone who looked after us.x
