Riverbank Cottage is a great place to stay for a couple or small family. It is cozy, well stocked and in an enviable position overlooking the mountains and tumbling river, the latter being the perfect sound to sleep to. The views from the front garden of the cottage are stunning, Snowdon horseshoe can be seen and there are a variety of birds that visit. There is a small shop and outdoor shop on the doorstep and a pub and cafe within a very short drive or long walk. Sadly the nearest pub and hotel were closed during our stay. There are many walks from the cottage and a short drive will take you to the various paths to Snowdon summit as well as many other mountain in the area. Betys y Coed is 10 minute drive away where you will find a variety of pubs, shops and restaurants. The absolutely stunning drive around Snowdon is a must, either on the Beddgelert road or towards Llanberis, as well as the drive to Ogwen. The cottage is well stocked with all you need for your stay, a modern tv with basic sky, dvd player, washing machine, small dishwasher and some games as well as cleaning products. The conservatory is handy for wet coats, boots etc. There is a small enclosed courtyard garden to the rear which is handy for the dogs. The parking to the rear is tight if you have a large car however there is a small car park a stones throw away. We will definitely be returning.
I booked this cottage about a month before we needed it and having read some reviews wasn't too sure what to expect especially re the back entrance/ back yard/parking. Well don't be put off!! Parking is tight but doable and you can reverse down the lane or turn in a tight turn between the 2 rows of houses (back to back properties). The property next door looks a bit of a state which at first shocked me but then saddened me and the backyard could do with a bit of TLC but wait till you get inside the cottage and/or round the front!! It's wonderful!! Firstly a fabulous conservatory which is so lovely to sit in when raining as the sound is lovely; it has the washing machine and dryer in and the dishwasher which I didn't twig to begin with (thought boiler or something). Then you open the door into the open plan modern kitchen/dining area and lounge (what a pleasure to cook/wash up while watching the kids/tv/fire). The bathroom is off this and though small, is clean and practical. The main bedroom is snug but to lay in bed and listen to the river gurgling away to itself was truly wonderful! The bunk room had more floor space but less of a view lol! All beds were comfortable. But I'm leaving the best bit till last...out the 'front' was the wonderful Snowdon Horseshoe (view to the left side when going out); however as I explained to my 4yr old Snowdon was very naughty all week and tucked himself up in his cloudy quilt lol. Despite that I had breakfast outside a number of times just gazing at the collective mountains. I mustn't forget the river though!! The garden was a little overgrown but you could make your way down to the river and paddle (very cold) and clamber on the rocks. After torrential rain overnight though the normally babbling river was a raging torrent and 3-4ft higher but what a sight to behold!! Within 12hrs though it was back to babbling again.
Overall a lovely snug cottage with amazing views/sounds from the 'front' garden
Location is ideal for walkers and climber but we did not feel welcomed by the owner. There was no suggestion that our arrival was expected.
Freezing cold on arrival. Took 24hrs to warm the place.
Washing machine leaking and fused the electrics.
Boiler cannot run the shower adequately, so frequently runs cold.
Kitchen facilities and implements were old and some unclean.
Backyard entrance gave a very poor first impression looking like an abandoned builders yard.
We made the best of it and enjoyed our stay.
We have stayed before and it was as lovely as last time
A great central location for walking and canoeing with lots to discover every time we have been back we find something new we missed last time
Really enjoyed our three day stay in the Snowdonia national park ,
Directions by jasmine ( the owner ) were very good
The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived with a very welcome basket containing a lovely bottle of wine plus biscuits.
Our two dogs liked the walks all around the area ,( plenty of choice ) and we
visited portmerion and Caernarfon castle which we enjoyed.
Local shop is in easy walking distance and a good pub .
We had an amazing experience the cottage was warm clean and had everything we needed the location was perfect to explore north Wales you can see Snowden from the garden and even see the cottage from the top
it's surrounded by beautiful walks that you can access right from the door with out needing a car
It's dog friendly but you would not know it by how clean it was and great that we could find a place as beautiful that we could take three dogs to
We will definitely be going back as soon as possible
What a fantastic place. Everything you could want/need is provided. The cottage has a great atmosphere and the surrounding area is stunning. Local shops nearby and mt. Snowdon just around the corner
