“A wonderful Hotel”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

we stayed in The Royal Hotel Llanberis and were delighted with the welcome we received on entering and found the hotel old but comfortable. The food was very good and the only thing that let the place down was the Maître D, who appeared to have a complete sense of humour failure and tried to belittle me in front of my friends. Not professional at all and if worked for me would be looking for another job, probably in portaging. The rooms were very comfortable and sometimes too warm if you don't have control of the radiators. The 6ft beds were a little soft for us, but we did sleep well. Not impressed with the early morning laundry cages rattling outside our window at early morning but that was only one day. Altogether a lovely 2 day break in our travels but the biggest disappointment had to be the Snowdonia Mountain Railway Closing down for the winter the day before our arrival.

This was the third time we have stayed at the royal Vic ,this time we had our 2 small dogs with us,on arrival we were greeted by very friendly reception staff who were as usual helpful and polite.
This time we stayed in the annex part of the hotel, the room was well prepared for us with the heating on , but the radiator in the bathroom didn't work not a big problem as the room was warm enough.
The meals were as usual of a good standard with very helpful and polite restaurant staff .
All in all excellent value for money ,when staying in north wales will always book this hotel.

Room Tip: Annex rooms have 2 flights of stairs ,views are better at the front of the hotel

We were on coach trip on sunny day.As soon as we got near the hotel the weather changed and it started raining and carried on until we drove away the next morning. When we arrived given room302, as there was no porterage we took our case to the lift but found the lift didnt go to our floor we had to walk round to another lift to our floor.Unfortuately the next lift was out of order so we had to walk up a narrow staircase with our luggage. The room was quite good with not to bad a view if it wasnt raining.A phone call told our meal was earlier than we had been told so a bit of a rush.We were in a private room and all the food was served to us quickly and well cooked with a good choice.Well worth the stay but could do with a little modernisation.

We stayed in this hotel on the 12-14Nov. The hotel itself was not that bad as some people put it here as i nearlly cancelled it by just reading some of the negative comments!.We had a very warm welcome from the receptionist , at first she gave us a room we didnt really like because they was no view ,and it was a bit on the back , bt she managed to sort us straight away with no issues giving us a better room , with a better view. The only negative we had was the water! Waitin 10-15mins for the water to heat up was just not ON! , which we both found as it was a bit annoying Wish they is something you can do to improve on this (i know u explained about the gravity but i think the gravity was taking a piss on us coz the wait was a bit long and irritating)but overall we enjoyed our stay and the beautiful sights of sheeps and Llanberies:-)

We stayed here for four nights in October. The staff were very professional on arrival but unfortunately the family room we were given was just not up to standard. Too hot, too dark, a view of a brick wall.

We asked for a better family room if they had one and the staff were excellent. They didn't complain, they found us one that was much better, cooler, lighter and with a good view of the lake.

The standard of the rooms is acceptable to good. The very picky would find things to complain about but really, you're only sleeping there and they are well above standard for that activity.

The main public areas of the hotel are very well maintained. Two bars, the restaurant, pool table and the reception are all clean and very well managed. The food was of a high standard at both breakfast and in the evening when we dined in the restaurant.

The food from the bars is plentiful and also of a good standard. Note here - the Afternoon Tea offering looks fantastic, but we never got chance to try it unfortunately.

The grounds of the hotel are also well maintained and make for a nice place to sit if the weather is good.

Overall, this is a very good hotel but I think you have to get lucky with the room you are given. That said, if you're not happy, ask to move. If there's availability they'll gladly move you to something better - but be specific on what you want.

I would stay there again, no question.

Room Tip: Ask for a light, airy room with a view of the lake. By far the best rooms in the hotel.

On arrival we were given our room key by the receptionist with no instructions to where the room was, we managed to find it in the rabbit warren of corridors. The room was of adequate size with large double bed well 2 singles pushed together. The bathroom had a strange smell. We we drew the curtains the dust on top of the curtains was clearly visible and we couldn't believe a cleaner could miss. The breakfast was plain and simple nothing special. The 3 course meal we had in the resturant was very nice and the highlight of our time in the hotel. Great location for visiting this area.

ok so hotel is in need of a of a make over, but for £54 the room was clean and very nicely decorated with good bedding, big bed and lovely bathroom. staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was not amazing but again it was fine for the money and hot breakfast is all cooked to order. only real dislike was the bar were we had dinner, food was much much better than we expected but I kept getting wafts of wet dog from the floor or seats and not been decorated since 1992 I think!
Defo would stay again though a good value for money. great location to walk to slate museum [free and so interesting] and railway to snowdon, £27 per person, but cheaper if you book the 9am train.
