“Its cheap but...”

Lovely location, impressive building with views over Llanberis but...
Interior really needs a refresh - decor is dated and tatty in many areas.
Restaurant displays a good dinner menu selection however the staff are badly (or not) managed. No organisation as to who owns tables for service.. It was worse at breakfast - we were asked three times by three different staff if we would like tea/coffee with breakfast before we actually got it. Cooked breakfast was poor, some items undercooked and poor quality.
Reception staff at check in and checkout were really friendly, helpful & professional
Would be good if Wifi was available throughout the hotel

Room Tip: Avoid Annexe Rooms

Great value, There were 7 team members who had completed the 3 peaks challenge, and the hotel was ideally situated for the last mountain Snowdon of the 3 peaks. Rooms, food, beer was excellent, ideal resting place after a gruelling 24 hour 3 peak challenge.

Room Tip: Family Room was great

The hotel itself is a tad run down but this is amply made up for by the extremely friendly and helpful staff in all areas of the hotel and my stay there was most enjoyable. In spite of changing my single room which was too warm for a double room it was still very hot, so if one needs to change rooms it is best to ask for the newer rooms as they certainly are cooler! The set menu was fine and there was plenty of choice.
The situation is utterly magnificent and ideal for visiting the slate museum, going round the lake by train and either walking or going by train up Mt. Snowdon, and of course the scenery is beautiful.

Room Tip: Rooms in the newer 'wing' are cooler.

Room was clean & bed comfortable, hotel was in a perfect position for the mountain railway, staff were friendly, food was good, we stayed an extra night because we liked the hotel, & had an evening meal both days, good breakfasts too.

Despite some of the negative comments in other reviews I went ahead and booked a one night stay at the Royal Victoria. I was not disappointed.
First impressions at reception were very good with a warm, friendly welcome from the staff.
My room was fabulous - a large room with huge windows, a flat screen TV and a large, comfy 4-poster bed! The only thing missing was my wife.
The bathroom was bright and spotlessly clean and there were good towels and toiletries.
I would be struggling to find anything negative to say about the place.
Breakfast was good with a cooked breakfast served promptly and items from a copious buffet.
Yes some of the public areas are looking a bit worn but the smiling staff make up for this.
I'm looking forward to my next visit soon.

From the initial investigation via the web this hotel looked promising. Ideally positioned for access to the Snowdon Mountain Railway and the picture showing the front of the hotel being very impressive, we thought that everything would be ideal for a 2 night stay. Unfortunately it did not turn out that way. The hotel being old has not had it's interior updated. Our bedroom was very small and unbelievably bland, although to be fair our shower room had been renovated and was quite acceptable until unfortunately through no fault of the hotels a power cut changed everything and the shower room was a place to avoid. The staff were excellent throughout but the food seemed to lack much flavour and the breakfasts almost seemed best to be avoided. It is regrettable to record this visit in such a vein as the position and views are superb but something ought to be done to update the bedrooms and corridors to remove a feeling of despondency when one walks around the place.

Room Tip: Obtain the best room you can afford
