Wanted to take in a steam train journey while in the region but restricted by having a dog and unwilling to pay the hefty prices of the Snowdonia, Ffestiniogg or Welsh Highland Railways. This was a cheaper compromise on a day out when we also took in the adjacent lake cruise and Slate Museum. Sure it's much less dramatic than the other trains and simply potters up one side of a lake and back again but it's reasonably priced, friendly staff and very enjoyable. Seats are hard and slightly cramped. Also be aware that this is not a train to anywhere. You just get a few minutes at a pleasant picnic site. The journey itself is the experience.
