“Don't bother with The Loft”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

We stayed in their "Loft" bunkhouse recently after a 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge. The "Loft" is basically the converted storage space above a garage. Plus points are the toilet and shower are acceptable and it has a fully fitted kitchen with cutlery, crockery and a fridge freezer, and has great views of Snowdon from the campsite opposite. On the negative side though it was baking hot despite the heating all being turned off and we couldn't leave the windows open to cool it down because of the millions of midges that live in the area. What's wrong with fitting a few midge nets on the windows!? There were no beds just mattresses on the floor, making it look like a crack den. The bunkhouse we stayed in at Fort William before we started the Three Peaks was palatial by comparison with twin rooms, proper bunks and was only £3 a head more which made this all the more depressing. We got a poor nights sleep which was just what we didn't need after 24 hours on the go. Won't be coming back.

Room Tip: You'd be better off in a tent on the campsite... as long as you bring a truckload of midge repel...

A good base for walking the Ranger Path to the top of Snowdon. Exceptional views. A great family campsite. Good shower block. The pub is a 15 minute walk up the hill. It serves very good food and has a decent selection of beers.

2 of us stayed at the Loft and took the ranger trail up Snowdon straight from our door. Pub just down the road with good food and real ale. The trout smoked on site was tasty and the lamb shank was very nice. would definitely recommend staying here for a group wishing to climb Snowdon.

We stayed two nights at the campsite run by The Cwellyn Arms. We turned up before 4pm and got straight onto the site, didn't book, plenty of space, fantastic view of Snowdon, picnic tables and fire pits. (You need to buy your wood from the pub £4.50 a bag) Really peaceful near the lake, all we could hear was the cookoo in the woods and the sheep on the mountain. Lovely free, clean, modern showers, just 50p for the hairdryers. Cannot fault the site, really well kept. If you like peace & quiet its great, (no music allowed.) Will definately be going again.

Stayed 9th June to 13th June 2014.. You couldn't ask for a more picturesque campsite. Excellent location for The Ranger Trail up Snowdon. The pub is only a 10 min walk on the road, longer if you take the route up and through the trees - do not reccomend this at night! We didn't have mobile signal/3G while on site or at the pub, but we didn't mind that at all. Campsite facilities are really good. Innovative idea for having benches on wheels and the trolley to help carry your equipment. Be aware that you will need insect repellent as you are camping near the water, take it and use it. Shower block is possibly one of the best I have ever used at a camp site. My only feedback would be to have a hand soap dispenser for general hygiene. Had one breakfast and one dinner at the pub. Was very pleased with the quality, quantity and prompt and polite service. We met the owner of the pub and the campsite on numerous occassions and he was extremely friendly and clearly takes pride in his business. All in all a lovely few days.

Stayed a single night at the campsite to facilitate a planned walk up Snowdon. Located the pub without any problems, checked in and advised that one of our party was not able to make it, they don't do refunds but you can carry over the booking for the next year and that will definitely being used!

Drove back to the campsite only half a mile before the pub, had a walk around the site, which is delightful, settled on a nice spot in the field near to the lake, found in some places you can get Vodafone signal however never found a spot to get T-mobile/Orange.

Pitched up, the basic rules are don't pitch up within 6 meters of another tent anywhere else is fair game, then roll a picnic table and firepit over and you are sorted!

Returned to the pub for some take out - a 2 Pint box of your favorite beer and a bag of logs and kindling for the firepit.

The Shower/toilet block is extremely clean and well presented and a piping hot shower was just the remedy to aching legs after climbing Snowdon.

I would definitely recommend this camp site for anyone wanting close proximity to the Snowdon walks and a few nights in the tranquil beauty of the countryside.

Room Tip: If it looks like rain avoid the middle of the lake field nearest the car park, that was the waterlog...

What a great campsite! Such an idyllic location.
We visited over the last bank holiday weekend for a couple of nights.
We loved the fire pits and benches on the pitches.
The showers were hot and the toilets clean.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The range of ales in the pub was great, but the food was very disappointing. I would definitely return to camp, but cook on the campsite instead.
