“what a lovely and friendly place”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Ive visited the red lion for lunch and had a light bite when we arrived we were very welcomed the food was exceptional we didnt even have to go to the bar we were seated and explained all the menus then half way through our meal we were asked if everything was ok with our meals "scrumptious" and asked again at the end of our meal, my brother and parents returned several times after that, then we booked for a 30th birthday I rang up to book for a table of 15 people the gentleman I spoke to went through the specials it was grill night 2 for the price of one "awesome" when we arrived we were welcomed yet again and the table was ready all layed out for us, the lounge was quite busy but still nothing too much trouble for the staff I asked if I could put some banners up they got some blue tac the food was "scrumptious " yet again. Can I just say on behalf of me and my family a huge Thank You to all the staff for making the night so special and would recommend this place 'Yes we will be returning '

Second time been for lunch as like to give people a second chance. What a bad decision . Hair in food , all meals came at different times , food tasted of washing up liquid and bread stale . Such a pity

“Don't waste your time or petrol”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

Having read all the reviews we thought we'd give it a try.
First impressions was that it is extremely small...only **9** tables!!!
All but 1 were empty so after getting drinks from the bar we headed to a table. It was reserved so we went to the next one, reserved, and the next one and the one after that. In fact every table (all 9 of them) were reserved. We enquired at the bar as to where we were to sit to enjoy our drinks and maybe order some food only to be told that we couldn't sit down. It was 6.35 on a Saturday evening and were told that all the tables were booked from 7.30.
The staff behind the bar were totally uninterested and we were made to stand with our drinks while being surrounded by empty tables.
WHY would you reserve tables an hour before they are needed? And WHY would you reserve every table you have in such a small restaurant on a busy roadside? You must be losing money hand over fist from passing trade, work it out, 8 empty tables for 1 hour.....ridiculous!
Needles to say we had to leave our drinks as we had nowhere to sit to enjoy them and headed into town to a real restaurant.
So If your looking for a cosy out of town restaurant or a quiet drink DONT head here as you'll be wasting your fuel, unless you don't mind standing that is!

This review doesn't make sense to me, firstly our reserved signs are an actual detailed leaflet of what time the table is reserved for, who has reserved the table and a polite note that says; 'You are welcome to sit here but we would be grateful if you could leave the table 10 minutes prior to the reservation time to allow us to clean and set the table, many thanks for your co-operation'. So if you had actually taken the time to read any one of the signs, which are in a photo frame standing up on each table and easily read, you would of been able to sit at any of our tables.

If you had actually asked any of our staff they would of happily explained this to you and pointed to to the best table based on giving you the most time in our pub. They do this on a regular basis and it works very well.

I'm not too sure why you feel the need to point out that we have 9 tables so explicitly? We are able to sit 40 people easily and we can accommodate around 60 if requested.

We also have a bar which can sit around 25 people, a number of seats where available at that time, you could of sat and eaten in this room as many of our customers choose to do so. So with so many seats available I'm not too sure why you wasted your drinks and left.

I am also puzzled why you seem to be giving advide to everyone by telling them not to visit our restaurant, surely if you want to make sure you can sit at a table it would be better to advise people to reserve a table.

I'm not too sure why you decided to mention 'go into town for a real restaurant'? There are so many nice places to eat outside of town, in fact there are11 out of top 12 on tripadvisor which are out of town, so that seems confusing or suspicious!

There are a number of points you raise which are very critical, you give advice not to visit and tell people to go into town, the content of this review seem dubious at best.

We are a very popular pub, thanks to our customers who visit and write sensible reviews and share their genuine experiences.
We always aim to ensure all of our customers enjoy their experience with us. We appreciate genuine feedback and use a continual improvement culture in every thing we do.

“Good food”
Reviewed 18 February 2014 via mobile

My family had an excellent meal here this evening, the 6 of us chose off the grill menu and the steaks ordered were cooked just as we asked for. The price was reasonable with two eating for the price of one. I am now tempted to call back tomorrow evening for the curry night. I will definitely be calling here again and have no hesitation in recommending the food and service.

“If only they did homemade chips!”

Had a lovely lunch with a friend at the Red Lion. Great value for money. Excellent service. Only thing that let it down was the frozen chips.
