“Great stay”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

I stayed overnight at the Grove a few minutes walk from the railway station in a quiet area of Wrexham although within easy walking distance of the town centre. The room was large and well fitted out, warm and welcoming. The staff very friendly and could not do enough to help. Will definitely stay here ago. Excellent value for money.

I booked this guest house because it had a 4* offical rating & being in hospitality myself i know the standards to expect at this level. The room itself was plenty large enough as was the ensuite, maybe a little plain & dated but that's just my taste...A selection of tea/coffee, a liitle bit tight on the bisciut..not really a bisciut more like a little coffee bisciut a bit penny pinching, as was the soap & shampoo you have to get at reception...much more nicer to have in the bathroom for guest use...it's the little touches that mean a lot to a guests ...would have expected Bath sheets too..towels were small. I booked breakfast for the 2nd morning & was pleasently surprised by the choice after reading previous negative reviews, However not worth the £7.50 extra charge...more like £4.95. better to add it to the room rate & include it as free breakfast.

Our room was in the bungalow & is a seperate building to reception breakfast area & once given your keys & shown to the room thats it.....lacking "the personal touch" of a guest house.

The bungalow hallway & rooms have laminate flooring which can be very noisy on the ears when guests are returning late at night 1-2am & opening their doors with keys on a big metal ring....sounded like the jailer coming to unlock the cells...which woke me both nights & the water system was very noisy filling back up after guests in rooms above us used their toilet & shower.

I probably would recommend this guest house to others it just wasn't for me.. i prefer to stay in guest houses rather than large hotels because of the more personal service of staying in someones home...just didn't feel like that here felt more like a motel.

we stayed overnight at this establishment and had the best nights sleep of our whole 11 day trip. The room was clean and decor well thought-out. Fittings were of a high standard and complemented the room well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My only slight criticism would be that only a continental breakfast was available and at the cost of £7:00+ per head found this a little expensive, although having not taken breakfast we could not properly assess the quality of the offering. Overall, a good place to stay if visiting Wrexham and within walking distance of town centre ammenities

Well booked this guest house blind ,with breakfast So arrived at a nice looking place and shown to my room that was laid out well and clean and tidy .
What they don't tell you is the guest house is located right by a very busy traffic light controlled cross roads used by 24/7 so if you like your window open then forget a good nights sleep.
Now the breakfast , I was really looking forward to my £7.50 substantial breakfast that turned out to be a continental buffet .
Toast , yogurt in pots, some croissants wrapped in plastic to extend the shelf life , a few slices of ham to share around 4 yes 4 small cakes that vanished in a heartbeat. (did ask if there were any more but I was told no that's all there is ). Now I arrived down at 8 am with one person sat in the dinning area, I was joined by another 7 people so you do the math . ( The guest house was not busy and tables were nice and clean so there was no mad panic to eat before I arrived ) Oh and I nearly forgot those wonderful cheese triangles BREAKFAST was not worth the £7.50 nor was it substantial.

Room Tip: try and get a room at the back so you don't get the traffic noise

This is a good place to stay if on a budget. I stayed here with 5 others on a cycling trip and we were happy with our overall stay. Rooms were a good size, our bikes were locked up in a secure garage and we ate a decent breakfast in the morning. It was a solid and dependable place to stay after a days cycling.

I needed somewhere to stay for one night for a short notice trip to Wrexham, Price point was a key requirement and usually look to Travel lodge or Premier Inn as these are usually central. The main chains were not particularly value for money so looked at guest houses. Found the Grove and price was spot onthe location was v good and the reviews seemed positive.
Arrived and was greeted with a friendly smile and shown to my room which was of a good size for a single. First thing it was spotless with a nice en suite and all the standard facilities. Great addition is free wi-fi. The bed was comfortable and just the job. I had some time to kill and got some directions from reception to the town centre which was about 10 mins easy walk away I was also advised that the guest house has negotiated some discounts with places to eat in town on showing your room key.
Breakfast is taken in a large conservatory and is of good value if a little small on portion size but still fair for the extra price supplement.
The guest house has ample on site parking and is very well kept and decorated.
I would definitely book again.
