“A grand day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

This is one place to visit with your children and dogs if you are in the area. Plenty of lovely walks, large adventure type playground and a wellie walk. The children had a great time splacsing about in the rivers that cross the land and got very wet as did the dog. We didn't use the shops or tea bar but it looked very busy and the car park was free which was a bonus.

“A super visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2014

The house at Erddig is very interesting and very good for children and School parties as a lot of the helpers there are dressed in Victorian costume and the children are able to engage in some of the activities. We took our grandson and he particularly liked the ride around the Estate in a horse drawn carriage. The tea rooms are excellent and a very good shop too.

“Average as they go”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

National Trust properties vary throughout the Country. It is not the property itself that dictates (because they vary in "visitor appeal" greatly) this but the whims and fancies of some of the management. Some senior managers think they can re invent the wheel and have this urge to go "corporate". This tends to take initiative away from the staff and particularly the volunteers. Hence some of the otherwise obvious heart tends to vanish. In spite of the endeavours of those more committed.

Erddig is such a property although it has to be said that it has not slid so far into the abyss as others who have been unfortunately blessed by being put into the charge of those would be high flyers who did not succeed in the commercial world.

But worth a visit - do leave your thoughts and findings behind too for others to see - and smile and talk to the volunteer guides in the rooms. They will appreciate it. And could do with support sometimes.

“Fascinating place but could be made more visitor-friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

Wonderful place, well worth visiting, but three faults they could put right:
- the coffee in the tea garden was dreadful - from a machine but even so...
- the best bit is the at the end, servants' hall and video with character portraits, etc. Would make much more sense to have this at the start, as an orientation tool. People can be and were tired by the end and less able to concentrate.
- the estate walks need far better signage - we got lost and even a steward said they weren't well marked. That could be remedied without too much trouble.

“A jewel in the NT crown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

I've only visited Erddig once but we had a great day out .

There is lots to do. The grounds are beautiful with formal gardens, luscious green lawns and wild spaces festooned with orchids. The house itself is very interesting and the volunteer staff are helpful, approachable and informative (well some of them are anyway!)

There are plenty of facilities that are all exemplary, including cafes, restaurant, gift shop, plant shop and second-hand bookshop.

Visit, and discover this gem for yourself - it's well worth it. You might want to use satnav to help you get there though!
