We came for a family celebration of Nina's 80th. birthday, our 3 children, their spouses, & 8 grandchildren aged 5 to 22.
The bedrooms were all of generous proportion, en suite, & tastefully furnished.
The living rooms accommodated all of the family comfortably, & the open fire added to the ambiance. The snooker table was a big hit with the children.
Walking around the grounds was a pleasure, & croquet was available.
The house is located near Llangorse lake, & there are many walks without travelling in a car.
We were looked after by Archie, Ken & Liz beautifully. Nothing was too much trouble, & every request greeted with a smile.
The family on living said that this should be an annual event
The perfect place to stay if you are visiting Brecon. It's a beautiful home in a picturesque location. It's a large property which works well for big groups.
All the bedrooms are well presented and clean. There is a fun games room through a secret door complete with billiards table, chess and board games galore. To relax you can cost up with a cuppa in front of the log fire in the sitting room.
I would highly recommend booming dinner as part of your stay. The food is delicious, well presented and great value.
Tremendously hospitable hosts that made us feel completely at home and looked after.
We have just spent a wonderful weekend at the very impressive TallJohns House near Brecon. Our family of 14 were there to celebrate a 75th birthday.
Our party of 14 ranged in age from 11 to 75 were housed in 9 of the bedrooms at TallJohns – all with their own bathrooms. We were all very well looked after by the staff at the house who were absolutely fabulous.
We chose the “catered” option and enjoyed a two-course meal on the Friday night and a three-course meal with canapes on the Saturday with comprehensive full breakfasts on the Saturday and Sunday.
Having the catered option meant that we could all relax and just get on with enjoying ourselves. There was no cooking to be done, no organising taxis or “designated drivers” to go out for a meal or trying to find a local restaurant or pub who could seat 14. The most we had to do was make our choices from the menu – which catered very well for all tastes including vegetarians.
The house staff comprising Liz, Ken and Archie were superb – they were relaxed and informal – always on hand – and no request was too much and they catered to our every need.
This and the wonderful setting and facilities made the whole weekend a very successful celebration with none of the potential stresses these family get-togethers can sometimes have.
We booked Tall John's House for a reunion, and would highly recommend it for anyone seeking a memorable party/get-together.
The house itself is stunningly beautiful as is the surrounding area.
We had a 4 course, black tie dinner for 18 people in the cosy but traditional dining room. The food was excellent and we were able to order welsh steaks, duck and fish courses in advance that were cooked and served to perfection. Canapés were served with gin and tonics on the croquet lawn. Breakfast was equally sumptuous and much needed after a big party.
The possibility of bringing your own drinks ensures you can bring the wines etc. that you really like, and helps enormously to keep the costs of a party down compared to hotel or restaurant prices.
The service was very laid back and personable. Archie and Liz were so helpful, remaining in the background but quickly on hand for anything that was needed.
The whole service was indeed very personalized and flexible. Liza took all our requirements on board e.g. Coping with changing numbers, splitting doubles into twins and allowing for flexible arrival and departure times.
Overall, a wonderful house in a beautiful area with excellent food and personalized service. We just need another party for an excuse to return!
Thank you Liza, Archie and Liz for a very memorable evening.
The photos of the house do not do it justice, it is even more breath taking in real life. You need to see it to fully experience it.
Surrounded by rolling hills, but still you don't feel cut off from society and towns are close.
The house is an amazing place to visit and the staff are all so very friendly and welcoming, could not ask for a better weekend.
