Just joined trip advisor, but wanted to leave a belated review for our stay in January 2012. Very welcoming and friendly reception in this nice old "character" hotel. Very convenient for the town and cathedral, both just a few minutes walk from the hotel, and a bit further walk to the Regimental Museum (also a must to visit but check opening times in the winter). Busy and friendly bar in the evening. Ate dinner in the hotel on Saturday evening with excellent food and friendly attentive staff in the restaurant. Breakfast on Sunday morning was terrific too. Enjoyed it so much we've already booked again for January 2013 but hopefully a room with a bit better outlook.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 32 which was a lovely room, very clean & tidy, but with only one small old window which was a bit drafty, however good thick curtains kept the room very warm. Not much of a view out over a flat roof & fire escape route.

Arrived at the hotel with our two very hungry young children. We were all looking forward to a family lunch together so we were pleased to see the place fairly quiet and sat at a table. However we had barely taken our coats off when we were approached by who we think was a bar tender. Presuming he was going to take an order off us we were about to ask for a menu when he said that the table was already taken and walked off.
No mention of the possibility of another table. We decided not to find another table nor did he suggest one !
We all left feeling very hungry and very poorly treated.

Stopped over here for one night on business, its a good 3 star hotel, staff were friendly and I had a good meal in the restaurant which I also thought was good value. I much prefer these type of hotels to the standard lodges, the Castle has a bit of character and I would stay again.

Spent last weekend at the Castle and really enjoyed our stay. As we had not booked the only vacancy on offer was a disabled ground floor room which was very comfortable and quite roomy with good size wet room.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and each good in their roles. The food was excellent so much so that we ate in the hotel both evenings. There were a number of local parties booked but this did not detract from the good service we received and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
We were lucky the weather was warm and sunny which meant that after exploring the countryside we could sit in the grounds of the hotel with a drink and admire the wonderful views.
It really was a very pleasant trip.

Room Tip: probably the rooms to the rear of the hotel would have the best views.

We have stayed for 1 night only, but would definitely recommend this hotel. Perfect location in the lovely little market town nestling in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, the room was very clean and well furnished, the bathroom was exceptionally clean and the ned was very big and comfortable. Breakfast was also very good, big menu to chose from. A lovely hotel !
