Four of us spent two nights at the castle and found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Both evening meals were extremely tasty and lovely and hot. Breakfast we couldn't find any fault with and there was a large choice.. This was also hot and dished up on hot plates. A palace to where we stayed in Ambleside in the Lake District . A bit disappointed that we couldn't find anything about rourks drift --the battle with the Zulu tribes in South Africa. We, however, went to the military museum and it was all there along with information on many other battles and wars including ww1
And ww2. If you intend on going to Brecon, please make time to visit here, it is well worth it.

Room Tip: We were in a very nice room with large bath room. Ok, floors did slope and creak but that added to the " niceness". Only downfall was being above an area where people went outside to smoke. We like our windows open and the smoke and noise always made a beeline for us.

We purchased a groupon deal to stay at the hotel and whilst it was perfectly acceptable the room was relatively small and the service was average at best. The meal in the hotel in the evening was nice and the breakfast was good too. Unfortunately the bed wasn't overly comfy and the size of the room detracted from an otherwise pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a spacious room to avoid being given a 'box room'

We enter this hotel to no one at the desk and when they appeared we went to have a meal as we were early, the meal was nice but staff were rude and not recognize us much as all. To which after the meal we went to pay at the desk it was a shambles took us ages and the staff were arguing i thought great impression and we where here for a weekend wedding and when i entered the room we were staying in there was dust in wardrobe and the bed side cabinet was positioned where slope was and behind it on the wall looked a mess and the socket was off the wall and by the end of the wedding we were left appalled by the attitude from most of the staff, defiantly will not be back again.

A pleasant hotel and reasonable value. But getting to it involved narrow and sometimes one-way streets, road works and vast vehicles blocking entrances. Maybe it's hasrder to gain access now that in earlier warring times when the castle itself was constructed. But once you've fought yourself in you get a good welcome, a nice big room, comfortable bed and decent food.

Room Tip: Lauch you attack from the Cathedral side and keep the river on your left.
