“The best B&B we have ever been to”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2011

We stayed at Blaencar for 7 nights. We had the luxury suite and the B&B option. What a good decision that has been. Carol made us most welcome on our arrival and was most helpful during our stay. Long walks was what we came for and Blaencar is the place to start from. Carol had provided us with maps and walking guides from the Brecon Beacons. After a great cooked breakfast ( with fresh fruit, cereals etc) every day we started our walks. We did a few starting from the B&B and the rest after a short drive (30 min. max) to our starting point. When we got back we had a cold beer on our terrace. The bathroom is ok. The electric power shower (Not seen in Holland) is fine after you find the right settings.
Because we were in the suite we had a fully equipped kitchen (big fridge for the beer, oven, microwave, dish-washer) at our disposal. Brecon is only 30 mins away with a few super markets so we made our own packed lunches .
We had a few great diners at “The Lion Inn” in Defynnog (About 2 km from the B&B), a few in Brecon (Italian , Chinese etc) and the best in the “Shoemaker Arms” (A40 Sennybridge, head for Pentrebach). Well worth driving the extra mile. In week-ends it is advised to make reservations in both pubs.
After we got back from diner we could sit outside or in our living room with 2 couches (Not to comfortable) a table with 4 chairs and a big tv.
After a long day outside, a good meal, a good night’s rest is what you want. And it is what we got. The four poster bed is very comfortable and the b&b is very quiet.
Carol , thank you very much and we will be back.

We spent two nights at Blaencar Farm on a brief holiday in the Brecon Beacons. This beautifully restored farm house is a peaceful rural retreat only 15 minutes away from the local National Park Visitor Centre and close to the town of Brecon.
We had a large double room with en suite shower - very comfy bed, sofa and TV. with a great choice of breakfast food. Carol has lots of books, leaflets, maps and walking guides for the area and she was very friendly and helpful: Everything we would have expected of a 5 star B&B and more besides at a very reasonable rate. We certainly hope to return.

Thanks to Carol our host for a great weekend. I spent with my husband 2 nights there when we went to explore the black mountains.
A hidden little gem, nicely done and lovely presented rooms and a great breakfast.
We will come back!

We spent a peaceful and restful couple of nights at Blaencar Farm. We had the self-contained luxury suite, which has its own living room, fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom. If you wanted to spend a few days exploring the Brecon Beacons (so many sheep, so little time...), the suite would be ideal, particularly if you wanted to do it partially self-catering (the breakfast will fuel you up for the first part of the day). It's a working farm, and I loved sitting and watching the hay being brought in, the small dog hitching a ride on the tractor and so on. Evenings are so quiet. Carol is an excellent host, and she has a library of maps and guides that she is happy to lend out. Breakfasts were great. The only minor negative (which would not stop us staying here again) was the bathroom. It's clean, pleasant and functional, but I'd like a big bath to share after a hard day's exploring. This bath is comfortable for single occupancy only. There is also an electric power shower - a peculiar implement of discomfort common in the British Isles. They generally produce a stream of water as powerful as a gnat's piddle, and are about as warm...! Stick a jacuzzi bath in there, Carol, and a fire-hydrant of a shower, and it would be perfection.

The small road leading to the B&B ensured that we did not hear a sound outside of nature while we were here. Lovely rooms and a hearty breakfast were topped off by Carol's friendliness. There's a good pub nearby as well.

We received a lovely warm welcome from Carol & Geoffrey into their wonderfully restored Welsh farmhouse.
After a great nights sleep we were woken by the sheep ! A hearty breakfast set us up for the day and we later returned out of the cold to our lovely cosy bedroom complete with comfy sofa.
We had fantastic evening meals in the village at the Tanners Inn and also at the Shoemaker Inn in a village nearby which both had menus worthy of top restaurants.
I can truly recommend this gem of a B&B and the Brecon Beacons.

A great place to stay after a good day's walk. Carol and her husband made us most welcome. The en suite rooms were spacious, beautifully furnished and comfortable with plenty of room for the settee in front of the television. A lovely location for our short break and close to many walks. Excellent supper was provided in The Lion Inn, Defynnog, only a short distance from the farm.
