Dropped in here for some breakfast sandwiches and coffee after a sunrise climb of Pen Y Fan. Food, service and coffee are all excellent, well worth finding time for a visit if you are near Brecon.

The chalked words on one of the blackboards on the wall said, "Choose a table; read the menu; order from the counter" (I paraphrase somewhat), which was all you needed to know.

Another blackboard displayed the three daily 'specials', but I chose a "tuna mayonnaise sandwich with braised vegetables and a hint of curry flavour" in granary bread, which came after about 15 minutes with small piles of coleslaw and of crinkly crisps on the plate. The sandwich looked like the proverbial doorstep, probably 30mm high! The granary bread was the most curious of its type that I have ever encountered, being very soft and "crushable" in the same way as the ghastly Kingsmill white sliced bread that we had to suffer when at school. The whole meal was very edible if somewhat bland; I didn't detect any curry flavour. The coffee was very good indeed.

Pricing was for the tourist market (£5.95 is probably a bit much for a tuna mayonnaise sandwich) even though the café was full of locals, many of whom seemed to know the member of staff doing the front-of-house work. The service was very friendly.

Would I return? Yes, indeed - it's clearly a well-respected and friendly local café that deserves its success.

I visit this cafe time and time again. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The menu is quite small but varied with an option to build your own wraps and pizzas and daily dishes put up on the board such as sausage hot pot or Hot vegetable Ragu. Amazingly friendly staff who serve the best coffee in Town. Really cant get enough of this place due to the relaxing atmosphere and warm welcome. A beautiful cafe with quality furnishings and super clean toilets and fantastic prices. Be warned, you may need to book at busy weekends even at lunchtimes as this place is so popular. Top Tip...only takes cash as no card machine but the bank is only 2 doors down...Will be visiting again very soon. A*****
