“Uncomfortable in its surroundings?”
Reviewed 24 May 2013

A period gem fronting a town street, The Great House looks a bit uncomfortable in its rather mundane setting, but once inside its historic walls the charm and atmosphere of the place is reassuring and uplifting.
The staff are professional and attentive, our annexe room well appointed and the gardens and common areas relaxing and well kept.
Worth a short visit.

Thanks for the comments - if you knew how many times we have been told we should be in the middle of the Cotswolds!!The surrounding countryside is lovely though, as is the golf!

Spent a very enjoyable 5 nights here. Staff couldn't have been more friendly. Very clean room with a nice turn down service at night as well. Good breakfast and dinner choices were great. No complaints at all...will be back!

We have just spent a really enjoyable couple of days at the Great House Hotel. We arrived lateish on Friday evening to be met with a warm welcome and a really comfortable bed. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the shower in the morning but we were immediately offered an alternative room.

When we returned later in the day, we discovered that we had been moved to a really spacious and comfortable suite!

Although we didn't have an opportunity to dine at the Great House, breakfast was superb, suggesting that we had really missed out.

Everything about this hotel is very good, although a little 'chintzy', but if it's home-from-home comfort you are looing for, then you need look no further.

Room Tip: Look for rooms away from the road as it can be a little busy at times.

Fantastic welcome from Samara and upgrade to a suite 'Dovecote' - very comfortable. Immedicate local area not that attractive, but plenty to see (walking/driving/cycling) close by. Dont miss the Ogmore Valley. Dinner excellent - although our 'package' included the Market Menu we decided to select some of our courses from the a la carte - including the sea bream that was delicious. Couple of 'niggles' with the room - no hooks for complimentary bathrobe/washbag and a rather noisy fan in the bathroom. Otherwise just a lovely place to stay to break a journey from West Wales back to the Isle of Wight.

Room Tip: We were very pleased with the suite!

Thanks for the feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We have checked out the fans and found the noisy one! Bathrobes in the suites are usually on quilted hangers, either in the wardrobes or in the bathroom, most rooms have space for wash bags, make-up etc on vanity bathroom units.
Hope to see you soon.

Stayed here for only one night as we were attending rugby at Cardiff, although the result was not what we wanted with the Welsh thrashing us !!!! The Hotel was a comfortable ending to a sad day. I would definitely stay here if in the area again as I found the facilities and cleanliness excellent and the staff very friendly.

We visited the restaurant as part of a group of six to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. From the moment we set foot inside to the moment we left was excellent.

The Sunday lunch menu had a varied selection of starters, mains and desserts. There was something for everyone. I had broccoli soup followed by a roast beef dinner. The raspberry panacotta dessert was the best I have ever tasted. Our whole party agreed the quality of the food was outstanding.

The service was very attentive and we were given adequate rests between courses. To finish our meal we had coffee/tea in the very comfortable lounge area which was the perfect end to a perfect meal. The restaurant itself was very stylish and welcoming and we would not hesitate to come back again.

Had an excellent stay at The Great House on a two nights midweek break, taking advantage of their DB&B offer. Our room was in the main house and we enjoyed the charm of this old building where you have to mind your head here and there. The staff was very pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The establishment was clean and tidy. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience, and we would not hesitate to come back the next time we are going to this area.
