Taking advantage of the lovely weather we decided to go to Kenfig Nature Reserve as it had been a while since our last visit. We parked in the free car park and walked down to Kenfig Pool to check out the usual inhabitants. We then chose to take quite a lengthy walk to one of our favourite beaches through the sand dunes.Morfa Beach really is a hidden gem,and as you have to walk a fair distance to get there it is not usually too busy. The sands stretch for a good couple of miles and so long as you look out to sea you don't notice Port Talbot Steel Works!! The nature reserve is well worth a visit but try to reach Morfa Beach. You won't be disappointed.

The ample, free parking and safe off-lead dog walking environment make this a very popular place. Can I make two requests of visitors, please clean up after your dog and please make a donation towards the upkeep of the area in the box in the car park.

Great walking over unspoilt dunes. Walk around lake or towards unspoilt beaches. Good for dog walks, or adventures with the children. And free.

Kenfig Nature reserve offers a glimpse into the past - steeped in history the area has a castle ruin, buried village and nature reserve. The area was the base for americal troops during the war. Today the reserve offers a range of wildlife in and around the pool with hides and vantage points for keen photographers and bird watchers.

Kenfig Pool is a safe swimming area (children should be supervised by adults)

Walk a bit furhter and you come across sker beach a hidden gem on the Welsh coast

Thank Robert C

This is a very popular spot for dog walkers. There is a visitor centre which was closed when we visited on Sunday but the toilets were open. There is quite a large free car park but donations are welcomed. There are several trails to follow and we followed a longish one down to the beach. You may need walking boots or wellies if you do this one as it’s a bit wet in places at the moment.
